No calpol- nursery policy

Just been refused entry to nursery as we mentioned at drop off he had calpol earlier as had complained of growing pains through the night. Feels like a weird policy, have you also got this policy?

Most nurseries have this policy! The nursery I worked in did and my son’s preschool does! ,

My nursery don't have this policy. They just ask exact time I give it so if he needs it again they know the time frame they can give again.

Ours doesn't & we're Stourbridge also, we just have to sign a form saying what time we gave it

Mine also has this, because it can hide tempreture 🙂

Mine does have this policy it’s actually an ofsted policy. If nursery ends up having to administer Calpol they make us aware and we have to collect him.

It heavily depends on the nursery regarding calpol policy. Some let them have it, some don’t. It’s not weird at all when you think that some parents just dose their kiddos up on it and bring them in ill (happens waaaaay more than you think)

We have all made this mistake…don’t tell them next time!!!!! Just make sure they call you before they want to give a dose so you can either say yes or no depending on the timing of when they had their first!!

@Francesca I wouldn’t advise this as you can develop reactions to all medicine even if they were once ok. Not telling them is negligence and your child will suffer if they do end up with a reaction. You won’t look too good either.

@Francesca absolutely do not do this! Most nurseries have you sign to say in an emergency when they cannot get hold of you or dad they will administer medicine if needed due to a high temp etc. If you don’t tell them they could give your child extra calpol. That’s so unbelievably dangerous

@Emilie 1000% 😖

Poster said it was for growing pains so no temp/fever. Ours always calls ahead of giving calpol. Of course check your T&Cs and what you signed up for as 100% all nurseries are different. If my child was that obviously ill in the morning to have to give calpol I wouldn’t send but for night growing pains (and no other symptoms) I think calpol and on your way is fine.

Ah I didn’t realise it was common, I wasn’t aware of it before today, if I’d have know I wouldn’t have given any this morning! He’s having such rough nights at the moment waking so many times and saying his legs are hurting! Hope it passes soon.

Thanks everyone for your updates!

Yeah mine had this policy too, if they need Calpol they're not well enough to be at nursery. It can suppress a fever and some nurseries can't give medication to kids so they just say to keep them at home xx

I don’t know if you give them vitamins but check with your GP cause when they grow so fast they need the extra Ca, Mg and vit D

This will help out with the growing pain

@Corina ah good shout, we do a multi vit but I’m going to start back up with his magnesium cream on his legs! X

Ours doesn't do this, they just need to know the time in case they need to administer after x
