Nursery

My LO was born on 1 July 2024. When is it recommended I apply for day nursery places? I plan to go back to work in May 2025. What is the process like? Any tips or recommends?

Well you might want to start with what city and country you are in as I’m sure they vary a lot 🤣 My bubs was also born in July and I applied when I was 8 weeks pregnant and just got a spot for him to start beginning of next year) I’m in Brisbane Australia)

My LG was born bang same day and I work in a nursery, I applied for a space for her before she was born due to the waiting list being so long and she won’t be going until March 2025. I’d apply asap xx

Oh wow, these comments 🫣 I didn't realise people apply so early. I don't plan to send my LO til Sept next year, but realising I should probably be applying now 😕 (Gold Coast, Aus)

It depends where you live and how oversubscribed they are, but I got the last place for our June 2024 baby at our older daughters nursery for June / July 2025 and I applied when I was 8 weeks pregnant. For my older daughter we applied at 24 weeks gestation for when she would be a year old and were told that was late. Places are very oversubscribed where I live (central Bristol) and I do know parents who have managed to find spaces once their baby was born, but they have had very little choice about the nursery. I do have a friend near Bradford though who said nurseries near her are struggling to fill their spaces; it will just depend on the number of babies being born around you and number of establishments I guess! I would suggest contacting a few ASAP to enquire. The worst they can do is tell you you are too early!

If you live where I live in the UK best time is 4 weeks after conception 😂

If it’s anywhere like where I am (3 nurseries available) then asap!!

On the waiting list 18 months in advance!

I plan to go back in April 2025, I haven’t applied yet either, I’m still unsure if I want to go back full or part time though 😅
