Solids

My daughter will take spoons fulls of baby food just fine but anytime I try to give her solids (banana, avocado, anything) she gags and throws up. Does anyone else's baby do this? My first did not she just refused to eat solids and only drank formula well past her first birthday. Jealous of all moms with the big eaters 😂

We just tried homemade "purees" tonight and it began with throwing up. I started alternating the homemade with the jar stuff in hopes that she would get enough nutrients for dinner. It just made her frustrated and now she's asleep in her high chair. I'll also take some suggestions!

My baby doesn’t gag anymore, he never threw up tho. We stared with soft foods at 6 months along with baby food (we did small pieces of Mac and cheese noodles cut small, hand him a fry, etc). Babies normally gag when trying new foods, because of different things, like texture and taste, they are trying to get use to it. Try slicing the banana and handing her a piece to eat at her own pace. Don’t give up mama, you got this!

@Sarah if she won’t eat it just give her a bottle. Babies normally gag when trying new things, but I’m not sure about throwing up, mine only gagged. she might not like what you’re giving her, and that’s why she threw it up. Don’t stress mama she’ll get the hang of it. How old is baby and has she ever had baby food or table food?

My daughter does this too! It’s so frustrating bc I feel like we’ll never make it out of the puree stage! And I feel like a little over a month ago she would eat more things than she’s eating currently, like her appetite has completely changed 😩 Dr says it’s possibly her teething but it’s hard not to be concerned or frustrated seeing so many hungry babies who want to eat all the time!

I’ve been pushing soft solids on my little one. He’ll sometimes not chew enough and try to swallow. He’s thrown up twice from gagging himself. It’s scary in the moment then he’s usually fine. I’ve been attempting to model chewing for him and making “mmm yummy” sounds. Idk if he grasps it, but I like to think it’s working 😂 He’s taken to toast recently. I’ve been trying different toppings of hummus, cottage cheese, pumpkin butter and other spreadable things. We’ll also sometimes give him teethers from HappyBaby, and he really likes those.

I haven’t experienced this with my son but my nieces were like this. Difference is with my niece we fed her and I let my son feed himself from the very beginning. We started with sweet foods singled out like super mashed sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas or oatmeal with 1 fruit. I ate a lot of bananas and peanut butter while preggo and baby boy loves them both, esp combined. Maybe try a simple version of your own favorite food or something you ate often while pregnant? This was a tip from my pediatrician that worked for us. Also not sure if you’re already doing this but trying out different snacks and keeping meal times consistent with no distractions is something else that has helped us vs when I would feed my niece. Whenever I feed him gerber puffs he won’t eat anything! A teething wafer, yogurt or applesauce doesn’t seem to ruin his appetite. Hope this helps! 🤞🏾

The brand wafers we use is organic good and gather from Target. 10/10 recommend! They have less sugar than other brands
