Part time job childcare

So I am currently unemployed and a sahm but we are struggling for money so I’m going to search for part time work and will need to put my son in nursery a few days a week. Would I need to find a job first and then a nursery, or find a nursery first? Will I struggle now to get him a place? Thank you!

I’d at least get to interview stage first. Also when you start looking you’ll get a better idea of what you may need nursery wise. Depending where you are your local council may be able to help re a childcare place especially if it’s a barrier to work.

Better to get the job first then, put in nursery. If you wanted too, you could work in the nursery with your son in it, as you will get a bit of a discount with it too. Check on the https://www.gov.uk/find-free-early-education website about the childcare. 🙂

I'd start looking for a nursery place at the same time as you do jobs - the waiting lists in some places are ridiculous (my friend had to book her daughter in when she was only 3 months pregnant). You can always back out of the nursery if you don't get a job but getting a job without childcare in place is more of a problem.

I’d definitely start at least looking at nurseries and finding one you like. Waiting lists are crazy. I was quite late at getting one. I rang 25 in and around our area and all apart from one had waiting lists of a year x

Thanks everyone!!
