Baby measuring small (growth scan )

Hey, I went to my growth scan and my baby is measuring small. He’s 2kg at 35 weeks and should be around 2.4 - 2.5. I have another scan booked in next week. Am I likely to be induced, if so when. I feel like the Dr was not trying to stress me and kept the information very vague.

i was told the same thing during my pregnancy, but those measurements are not completely accurate. they wanted to induce me at 40weeks but i said no and had my daughter naturally at 40+5, she was over 6 pounds so not too small at all. i wouldn’t stress about it

2kg at 35 weeks sounds okay to me? My son was 2.8kg when he was born. What percentile is he on and do you have a follow up scan?

I’m not sure why they think inducing a “small” baby is helpful? Surely more time in the womb growing is beneficial. 35 week growth scans are notoriously inaccurate from what I’ve read so I would stick to your guns and wait for spontaneous labour when your baby is ready if it were me but go with your gut x

@Becca yes a follow up scan is next week, she did mention something about double checking the blood flow too

@Laura thank you I will do x

My lo was 2kg at 35 weeks, I was induced the next day at 35+2, not due to his size but due to him not growing. You will probably have a scan every week, one week will be a scan to check blood flow and the placenta and then following week probably a growth scan. They will just keep an eye, but remember if they want to induce you because of babys size you can say no, if they do want to induce because of size it will be after 37wks. But no matter what baby will be fine x

You’ll have a better idea of baby’s growth after your next scan. Measurements can be wrong and babies have growth spurts at different times - my daughter went from 9th centile to 23rd. I think they’ll likely monitor baby’s growth for a few weeks before discussing induction with you x

They won’t jump to induce you. They will do more checks at try to keep you past 37weeks. As long as baby is still growing and there are no other complications they will keep baby in. There are reasons to induce - placenta not working properly, reduced blood flow, no/ little weight gain. They induce early for small babies with the above due to extra pressure being put on the baby and baby not getting the right nutrients and things. This all happened with me, baby was on 0.5th centile, induced at exactly 37 weeks. Born 6.3lbs and healthy just tiny in size. They will probably do extra scans and monitoring and play it week by week on decision making. Remember scans can be inaccurate. Baby will be in good hands 😊
