Small babies

Has anyone had a baby measuring on the 3rd percentile? I’m 28 weeks and had a growth scan yesterday that revealed baby has dropped down to 3rd percentile and now I have to have scans every week to see how he goes. Iv had quite a few scares during this pregnancy and this just feels like another worry! I hardly slept last night. I asked the doctor what happens if he doesn’t improve and all she said was we will see 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had the same with my 1st she was on the 10th Percentile and dropped to the 2nd by the time she was born. My second was tiny aswell but I just have small babies no issues other than that. They do scare you without giving much info You will most likely be induced so the positive is you get to meet your baby earlier x

My baby was on the 2nd percentile… this was picked up at 20 week scan and then had two weekly scans, where he stayed around that, so there wasn’t necessarily a drop off in weight. Towards the end of pregnancy they would check blood flow to brain and heart (as this increases when baby not getting enough blood as they prioritise vital organs), we were ok, but around 33 weeks one measurement showed he was on the 5th percentile and 35 weeks went back to the 2nd, which they saw as a reduction so I had a planned section at 37 weeks and baby was perfect, didn’t need any help with breathing etc. As he was then “full term” he was 0.4th percentile. He is 11 months now and still 2nd percentile weight but 50th for length. I hope everything goes ok for you and your baby. Just be mindful of movements and if you think they have reduced, get it checked out. I was told towards the end that if I was ever concerned I could come in every day to get checked. Try not to worry too much xxx

I had this with my first she was 8 pound. That was 25 years ago and I was a size 6. I now have this with my second and they measure your belly not the baby. Got a scan later but midwife isn’t too worried baby is moving round loads. At the scan they measure the actual baby. I am now not a size 6.

Thank you! I feel better after reading positive experiences! I have seen online that he will most likely come early but just feel like hospital doesn’t want to tell me anything 🤦‍♀️ xx

I had the same with my first baby… they told us he dropped to the 3rd percentile at 35 weeks and were pushing me for an induction. I refused since this happened to a lot of people I know in my family. I’m petite myself and underweight so idk how they were expecting me to push out a baby in the 95th percentile. He was born earlier than his due date (about a week) and was completely healthy and a normal weight… they’ve put my second pregnancy on high risk now but I’m lowkey expecting the same to happen again and I’ll just follow through with the same plan I had with my first… Let nature take its course. But ofc that’s on a case to case basis xx

My nearly 6 month old was on 90th then dropped to 10th due to placenta issues, she was born 2nd percentile at 4lb6oz 36 weeks C-section, she’s still tiny now but she’s doing great 😊

They called today and asked if I could come in due to a cancellation. So I was seen just over 24 hours which was really good. Everything was fine was in and out quite quickly. They measure the baby as they did at 20 weeks scan and look at the chart to see where you are at. They also check fluid levels and umbilical cord to make sure no issues there. They said it is within normal so no concerns. Still measures a little small but is within range. Don’t panic they are measuring your belt at midwife appointments not the actual baby
