Doubting gender scan!

We had a gender scan which we were told we were having a girl, but we had to go for two walks and she was in a very difficult position but they managed to say girl. Since we have had two NHS scans who both said they couldn’t tell what the gender was because she was again in an awkward position. Has anyone else experienced this? Scan photo, any thoughts?

NHS typically won’t volunteer the gender because it opens them up to legal action if they get it wrong apparently - that’s what I was told by a nurse at my hospital when I was admitted for pre-eclampsia and they were trying to find out if I was having a boy or girl so they could assess what treatment my micro preemie would need. We found out privately and that was correct. My daughter was never not in an “awkward position” for NHS scans

I really can't tell from that pic tbh! Mine was alot clearer, especially with my son 🤣

@Kate that’s what I thought but the first one literally asked if we wanted to know but couldn’t tell because he legs were straight and she wouldn’t move and then today she had the cord between them! We have already paid for the private gender scan but I feel like they just took a shot because they couldn’t see anything really and she wouldn’t move! I don’t really want to pay for another scan. I don’t care if she was a boy I just have so many girl things now!🥺🙈

So have you had your 20week nhs scan since this one? It’s annoying having to pay but I think I’d have to get another one to confirm or a blood test! Im sure it is a girl if they were confident enough to say but that scan is really unclear and I’d spend the next 20 weeks wondering!

@Sorrel yes I had the 20 week scan about two weeks after this one and then had to have another 20 week scan because of her being in difficult positions!

@Lucy ha she’s already calling the shots! I’m sure it’d be more obvious if it were a boy but yeah would be nice to have clearer image. I guess you’ll find out for sure soon!

I would probably pay for a private scan for reassurance if you can. Although I’m pregnant with a little boy and it’s hard to miss so I’m sure it is a little girl if they think so. The pic is very unclear though!

I'd definitely say girl

Do the blood test ,

Ultrasounds are less accurate than blood tests, especially given that positioning plays a huge part. If you want to be more sure, get a blood test -preferably at a clinic not a home one. We got a private NIPT at 14 weeks and found out the gender from that.

@Loren please how much does the blood test cost?

@Bola cost will depend on how in depth you want it and where you get it. Window to the Womb does it and normally has offers on, but I think it’s always around £250: https://windowtothewomb.co.uk
