Help

So I’ve already been for a growth scan before, I’ve had a midwife appointment today and she said she might need to send me for another growth scan after the next appointment. For context, I don’t understand how when they measure your bump with a god damn tape that this is accurate. My last growth scan baby was 2lb 10 @ 29 weeks (now 31) and my sonographer had no problems and has sent me back to my midwife. I am quite skinny, can that have an impact on my bump? Sorry it’s long😂

I don’t understand, i do agree that It’s confusing how they’re supposed to get an accurate duże from the bump, but is the scan not because she was only 2lb10 at the last scan? I’ve got another scan because babygirl was 4lbs at 29 ish weeks so I assume they also think your baby’s small? I was really skinny before pregnancy too 😅😅

The issue is your midwife only has the tape measure to go off so they have to play it safe. No it isn't accurate so that's why you get referred for an extra scan. I had the same. No issues at scan but still referred for a second scan and consultant appointment. What they also do is do them 2 weeks apart to check that baby is growing at a decent rate too. Rather than being like being 2lb10, then STILL 2lb10 weeks later. This was explained to me by the doctor. It just allows them to not only make sure that baby is safe and well but also that your baby is still safe and well and developing week by week. I get it's frustrating though as I had a second and the consultant was like "sorry I don't know why you're here" but at least they're looking after you and bubs!

My baby measured at 2lbs 5 at 28/29 weeks and nothing was ever brought up as an issue?x

@Rheo my sonographer said there was no issue with anything at the 29 week scan and has said I can stay under the midwife’s so god knows x

@Remee Staying under midwife just means that they don't have to consultant lead your care. Which is a good thing. However, your midwife will still refer you to check growth if it doesn't look like you've progressed when they measure you. I had one consultant appointment and he was happy and discharged me back to midwife care.

@Bethan thank you, it’s just so bloody confusing and scares me x

Had one tape measure and one growth scan, and they both put the baby at the same percentile, so for me the tape measure was accurate. I had a flat stomach before being pregnant and probably about average height torso.

I genuinely hate growth scans, I don't see the point! At my last scan, I spent longer sitting their waiting for it than the actual scan lasted, all for them to tell me "yeah everything's fine" 😤

I feel this! I had a scan where I was told baby was 2 weeks 5 days ahead of growth. I go to my midwife and she lies me down, whips out the measuring tape and I'm then measuring slightly below and have to get a growth scan check. Go for the check and behold, baby is still measuring big! 😭 Soooo irritating

I have had growths scan every 2-3 weeks under consultants and I absolutely love seeing baby each time, and the care I am receiving. Everyone is different but we could also be grateful given some countries charge for scans. You can also not go to your appointment if you prefer or raise your concerns straight with ringing midwives or hospital.

We’re on a weekly scan. Baby at 32 weeks is 1,400 grams
