Negativity everywhere

Is it just me feeling this way?! Netflix: tons of shows about children ruining everything in life Friends with kids: telling you to "enjoy your life until you can" Social media: bombarding with how you won't have money for yourself and how you decided to ruin your life Memes. I know having kids is hard, but it'd also be happy. I see no positivity anywhere and this is bringing me down. I'm starting to question my choice and be seriously scared of what's coming. Is it just me?

I have a child and i can say i do not regret for one minute. Of course there are hard momebts but yes i am happy. Cant wait for this little one now.

honestly ignore everyone, I was at a point where I felt the same as you but honestly I’ve become so peaceful in my pregnancy knowing that things are hard but this is what we’re made for, yes days will be difficult and we may struggle to cope but I keep telling myself, this is my first time trying to get through life too and we’ll be doing it with our children 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

This is something that’s really grated on me recently too - even friends who are already mums just being completely negative about it rather than highlighting any of the positives. We do defo live in a world where people compete for ‘who has the most struggles in life’ so shouting about the negatives is what helps amplify that. The reality is, becoming a parent is the most wonderful gift in the world (and not something everyone gets the luxury of sadly) and despite the hard times, the positives will absolutely outweigh the negatives. Try your best not to listen to outside opinions and focus on yours and your families happiness!

Being a parent is hard, much harder than I thought it would be. So much so that we seriously considered NOT having a 2nd. People "complain" to connect with others for their own mental health and that's much needed in this day and age where support for parents can be lacking. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to hear about the downsides before you leap into parenthood. At least when you have your struggles, after the 10th night of being woken hourly, you'll remember that you're not alone. I think it often goes without saying, though, that their kids are loved and they just don't verbalise this.

Unfortunately negativity is what gets people talking more than the positive side of thing:( that's why news articles always cater to making people feel a strong negative emotion whether it's fear or anger than anything nice and fluffy

@Clara I couldn't agree with you more. That's how I feel, although I still didn't manage to leave them out of my mind and find that peace

I have a little boy who will be 2 next week and he's the best thing ever! I can't wait to welcome more into our lives. Their little smiles are infectious and you enjoy the smallest most basic things with them. There are hard days and they go through tricky stages but as soon as they smile again you forget it all. You'll love it!

You’ve totally got this and will be the most fantastic mum 🤍

Incredibly, the most positive parent I know is a single father. He lives for his daughter and when I'm going through a difficult time it really helps me think about him and the joy his girl brings to his life

Go on your socials and look at your preferences, delete/block unfollow accounts that are showing you negative content. Unfortunately negativity is what gets the views and earns the money. However there are lots of positive posts and shows that will build you up. Shows like that are meant to be a humorous way of looking at the struggles in life. Yes there is some truth in that costs go up, stress goes up etc however there are far more positives. But negative stuff tends to take our focus, so we focus on the negative things happening and forget about all the good stuff. In early pregnancy I had to go and reset everything as I was getting lots of pregnancy horror stories and I was like I'm not diving in to that. What will be will be and I don't want to stress about everything that could possibly happen even the most rare things that could ever happen.

I feel the same as you. I am trying to limit social media because the anxiety is terrible!

I have 2 kids and pregnant with 3rd. Yes it’s bloody hard work and can be stressful but they’re not kids for long. They bring so much joy into my life and I couldn’t imagine life without them. Watching them grow from little babies and develop their own personalities, starting their first day of nursery and school, taking them places to explore the world, teaching them things. It’s the best thing ever. Im counting down the days to meet my next little one because I can’t wait to do it all again

@Maud I know, it's not easy to block it all out!

@Natalie your message is so lovely 🩵

It's definitely a type of venting that's common for UK folk. At least what I've observed is people like to moan to connect with others hahaha But on a serious note, it's down to your own attitude to how you feel, and I genuinely believe optimistic people are happier for that reason. Of course parenthood is hard, but the reward is huge as well. It all depends what you value in life. I personally couldn't picture myself alone with no family in old age. I wanted to continue having a semi chaotic and close home life with the ones I love. So I know for myself no matter how hard it gets, it's better than the alternative. That my own take on it anyways :)
