Low lying placenta

24 weeks - low lying placenta. Haven’t had any issues, booked in for another scan at 34 weeks. Question is - conflicting info on if sex is ok? I haven’t been told it isn’t by midwives or doctors BUT my friend 2 weeks ahead of me has been advised not to have sex until the scan at 34 weeks, purely because of the low lying placenta…. Any advice 😬

I also have a low lying placenta and wasn't told anything, other than to come back for a scan at 34 weeks. Midwife didn't even mention it at all at my appointment. I can imagine they'd be more likely to suggest it if it was very low/covering the cervix?

@Loren yeah that’s what I thought, maybe just some miscommunication as I haven’t been told otherwise. The hospital gave me a leaflet on low lying and it didn’t say anything on there about not having sex 🤷🏻‍♀️

I didn't even get given a leaflet or anything either! I think it's generally not anything to be concerned about.

I got a leaflet with dos and don’t about it. Not going to lie though - thankful that my husbands leaving me alone 😂

It could be that her placenta may be over her cervix slightly more than yours so her midwife has suggested avoiding it for her. But as a rule it’s not something you should have to avoid unless told so by a medical professional. I haven’t been told to stop and if you haven’t I wouldn’t be too worried unless you notice any pain or bleeding
