Going back to work and nursery

So I was meant to stay at home with my daughter as we are fortunate to be in that position but for my own sanity I need a job and adult conversations. We have found a nursery for my 1 year old and can use the free 15 hours for working parents great! But what about when schools are off on holiday, my nursery is open all year round, does the 15 hours free with school holidays as well or do I need to pay for the days? If so how do yous cope with that as I can’t afford 150 a week for this?

If you want it in the holidays then it’s actually only one day per week that is free if that makes sense

You can chose to spread it over the year so works out at 11 hours a week instead 🤗🤗

Depends on the nursery whether you can spread it. For ours it’s free during term time and we pay in full during school holidays

I will need to ask when I hand in paper work on Friday, i don’t know how I’ll afford it, I need to give them something regardless anyway cos I work 20 hours which is fine but paying full amount over school holidays makes me feel sick I just know I won’t be able to afford it

As hollie has said we spread the hours out so we actually get 11 hrs per week

Mines spread across the year I pay £270 a month for 2 days with the way it works for us xx

You can also possibly access childcare account with helps towards fees and you can pay your nursery via that portal. For every 100 you put in I think the government put 20 or 25. We use it with our free hours.

Ask your nursery how they offer those hours. Some offer them only during term time and you have to pay for those 15 hrs when there are breaks between terms. Other nurseries spread the hours evenly throughout the year and you don't have to worry about breaks. Some nurseries don't let you choose.

With my nursery, we use the 15 hours all year round, so she goes 1 morning and 1 afternoon which is 10 hours a week

You either take them out and use your annual leave / find other arrangements, pay the full amount in just those weeks or spread the funding out so you pay a bit more but the same amount each month. Speak to your nursery. If you can't afford it then figure it out now rather than later.

You'll need to ask them what their fee structure is. Ours stretch it and don't offer an option but I know some do. Just means higher wrap around sometimes. We use 12hrs of our step sons 30hr entitlement because we can't afford anymore in wrap around fees but every nursery is different and should be able to provide you with a full breakdown. We have to pay for days he doesn't attend so Caroline's situation is different again. We don't have the option of taking them out for the holiday and not paying. We still pay. This year he was on holiday with his Nan for all of August visiting family in Greece. We paid nearly 800 quid that month with no funding thrown in when he wasn't in and we gave them 10 months notice of that holiday too. You'll also likely pay full on BH too so don't choose a Monday if they charge for those 😂
