Obstetrics general

What does this mean? Anyone went to an appointment with the title being obstetrics general. What happens? what’s it for. Should I go?

Are you high risk for any reason? It’s just an appointment with a consultant/doctor rather than a midwife. Did you get a letter about it? There should be a number you can call to find out what the appointment is for

My blood pressure been high but no one has said I was high risk @Becca and no I just got a text message

I’m obstetrician led. It’s just a doctor rather than a midwife. You might be high risk and haven’t been told (that’s pretty common sadly in the nhs). Is this baby 2? I had a section with baby 1, so I’m obstetrician led from the start as I want a second section. I haven’t seen a midwife once because I don’t need them this time. It’s just tailor led care by a doctor because of a medical factor.

Maybe contact your midwife or hospital maternity unit to see if they can find out why. But I would say go to the appointment

@Sarah no it’s my first baby. I’m 34 weeks being told I’m high risk now would be a shocker. how come you prefer c section? if I may ask @Becca I will call them and attend just in case thanks girls

I’d say go to the appointment and see what they say, can’t hurt. I really had a fantastic birth and recovery and found it really happy and safe so want that again. Plus I’m due between Xmas and nye so this ensures no drama and staffing issues leading to poor care xx

@Sarah oh good for you! you don’t really hear positive c sections stories.

I work in maternity Obstetrics is to see a consultant who deals with specific issues If your blood pressure is high, it could be a consultant who deals with high blood pressure.. are you under the blood pressure clinic ? How many weeks are you

@Katie hey! No I am not under the bp clinic. I have just had normal midwife appointments. I am 34 weeks 2 days

@Sarah heya. If you don’t mind me asking what hospital you are with? I kind of assumed midwives were the default and then you got an obstetrician as well if you needed?

@Ali st Thomas. As I’m opting for a second section from the start, I’ve only seen my obstetrician and a nurse for my whooping cough. I think I’m due a midwife check in for all the usual questions at week 28 but no letter or appointment with the midwife team. Tbh though I’ve had 4 appointments and 5 scans with my obstetrician so feeling more supported than under baby 1 ☺️ xx
