Social anxiety

So I think I have a mild version of social anxiety.. once I make plans I start to dread them and honestly think about it with dread as each day gets closer…what I’m Gonna wear, what do I do with the kids? If I’m Leaving the kids, how much do I have to pump? If I’m taking the kids, are they gonna behave or wild out like crazy! How will I handle it?! Just dread!!! Once the day comes and if I haven’t cancelled and I do make it… adrenaline kicks in and I’m the life and soul of the gathering. Still being myself but just so chatty, approachable and you’d think I was having the time of my life… then on the way home I’m drained and can’t wait to get back in my comfort zone. Anyone else like this? Is this social anxiety? I know I haven’t always been like this but hard to pin point when it started. Share what social anxiety looks like for you…. If you’re comfortable sharing.

Sounds like you're an over thinker and perhaps being someone you think they want you to be rather than yourself?

Yes, since having kids, especially, I resonate with this a lot. It's gotten a bit easier now that my son is in sports. So there's not as much pressure to be the life of someone's party but instead take my son to sports and chat a little if I want or just hang with my baby or husband or whatever. But i fully understand the feeling. I definitely have anxiety, but for some reason, my second baby has actually improved my anxiety some. But I do focus more now on choosing different perspectives and taking magnesium, getting out into the sun, moving my body more, and all help to feel a lot less anxious about everything. Hopefully it gets better for you too. Sometimes we just have to do the things that help until our brains follow.

@Darci that’s great that you’ve found ways of managing and even minimising your anxiety- just like u I also get comfort in being around my husband and kids. I’ll look into the magnesium. Thanks!

@Amanda I’m definitely an overthinker 😩 but certainly not performing for anyone. I’ve always had a dynamic personality and can get along and chat to different types of people , the pre kids me was out in large circles and loving conversations and building my network. The post kids me now has to geer up for this and would rather be home and away from crowds…. Both side are 100% me.

Hmm sounds like any introvert out there. It’s normal for introverts to feel this way especially in larger groups. May change with closest friends or family where they feel like they can relax and be themselves. Don’t sweat it, just embrace it and work with it!

@Roberta thanks!! I love this approach of yours.

Hello! I have the same, sometimes even think is social phobia. When there are many people around I panick. I interact, but inside myself I’m feeling so anxious. In my case, I was extrovert and became introvert. I’ve done some research and one of the reasons I’ve changed was pandemic. And because I work from home and don’t interact with people. Then I’ve downloaded this app to try to meet other moms and go out of my shell.

Im one of those introverts, if you’d like to talk it through along with some strategies etc ping me a message:)
