Fetal Management Unit / Referral

Hi, I’m 34+4 and just received an appointment to go to Manchester (my local hospital is Lancaster) for a scan. I’ve tried to ring my hospital to see what this could be about but the lady on the phone couldn’t help as it’s a Manchester hospital and won’t be on my notes? I’ve tried to ring the number on the appointment but no answer. Now I’m panicking as I’ve read what the unit is, and the appointment is short notice, being booked in for this Wednesday. Has anyone ever been referred here, should I be worried about my baby, I know in my app last week, baby was measuring on average but had a big belly?

Big belly / shoulders could be a sign of gestational diabetes

If so your glucose tolerance will be tested.. try not to worry - if it was super risky or worrying they would want you in quick. Sometimes in some hospitals they use named departments for a range of things

@Alima I’ve already tested for that and came back fine, which my consultant also said on Friday after the scan I had. I’m such an other thinker, I will try ring my midwife again tomorrow morning, to see if they can give some background. Thank you though Alima

Ahh I see well that’s ruled out then. Try not to I know it’s hard I’m that way too but try to look at facts and evidence before worrying too much I hope you find out what it’s for really unhelpful when there’s little clarity could be something small or big but you won’t know till you speak to them. I hope it goes well 🤍

Maternal fetal medicine is relating to your health not the babies , I got an appointment here when I had a lump on my thyroid that turned out to be nasty x if you have an long term health conditions or you have developed an illness in pregnancy ect it might be that x

Spoke to my midwife this morning, and it’s for the baby. I have too much fluid and baby is measuring big so they want a second opinion, but im not too worried now 🩷
