Growth Scan result

I am panicking slightly after a scan today which was originally for my placenta position. In it they checked the growth as just part of the routine and found he is measuring way above even the 98th percentile (5.5 at 33 +3 weeks). All my bump measurements are 50th percentile and i had a growth scan at 24 weeks for the bump being too small and he measured 50th so this wouldn’t have been picked up if we didn’t have this extra scan. They are now checking me for GD which i expected and have booked me in at 37 weeks to check the growth, stating i would need to decide on induction/c-section if he’s still large. I’m really worried about him coming out huge, but also worried about making a decision to have him early if the measurement is off. Has anyone experienced similar things with growth scans measurements being wrong this far on??

They told my my son would be 8-9 pounds which is on the bigger side but he came out 6lbs 11 oz 🫣 - unfortunately ultrasounds can be way off but ultimately you have to decide what you feel is best for you! Good luck

Scans aren’t 100% accurate. You don’t NEED to decide on induction or caesarean but they’ll recommend them. How do you feel in yourself? How does your bump feel compared to the scan that says 50th centile? Have a read of Sara Wickham’s info on induction and induction for ‘big baby’. She’s a fountain of knowledge.

thank you both, feeling slightly confused especially since from my bump they would of never picked it up. They said my fluid is on the higher side too so confused where this big baby is fitting inside my average bump🤷🏼‍♀️

This is so confusing to me because I had a growth scan at 33+1 and was told he’s 5lb 2 but apparently that’s ‘perfect’ and they weren’t worried what so ever and kept telling me how perfect he is but I still thought this was a little big 🤷🏼‍♀️ he’s still plotted on the higher side of the grow chart but even my own midwife said it’s normal, I haven’t got a clue 🤣

Mine was 98th percentile so I expected a big baby, they never mentioned intervention and I didn’t have any and he came out 9lb bang on absolutely fine xx

@Kyraleigh oh this actually makes me feel a bit better as they were making me feel like it’s unheard of large 😭 i’m 5.2 so this is maybe why?? it confuses me as they do it based on your height/weight but they don’t take into account your partner and mine is 6 foot.

@Phoebe i think it’s because he’s above the 98th, he’s plotting of the chart and has had the jump maybe? so confused

i had a growth scan as i was mean during big too! the lady said that scans are still 25% inaccurate, so not to worry too much.

I'm almost exactly the same! 50th percentile bump, 99 percentile scan, it's all very confusing, I have my GD test on Friday then another scan week 36. I have no advice but at least we know we're not alone!

@Amy that makes me feel a bit better, a bit of me is like have i been doing something wrong to grow him so big? It was such a shock as i had never had anything flagged about him being larger and this was only checked by chance!

It must just vary at different hospitals or from midwife to midwife I guess 🤣 my midwife did say though that babies nowadays are generally bigger than they used to be anyway, but I never thought of that, I’m only 5’4 so probably is!

I had additional growth scans, because of low PAPP-A levels, and bump and baby measuring on the small side (I'm not sure what percentile, but she was measuring tiny). I had an induction booked, (but I opted for a c-section) as they were worried my placenta is not doing it's job and not giving enough nutrients for baby. My last scan she was measuring bang on avarage... she was born in the 75th percentile 🤦🏻‍♀️ so these scans can be waaaay off 🥰 do what you feel most comfortable with, what's best for you and for baby... you will know, mamma instincts are always on point 🥰🥰
