Due date

Does anyone else feel as though their due dates are wrong?? I know the day I conceived and the day of my last period.... At the booking appointment the lady told me I was about 12 weeks but then at my first scan, they said I'm actually 8 weeks. I feel as though the first lady at my booking scan was right as my last period and the day I conceived match up to the date I think I'm due and when the first midwife thought I was due. I'm now supposedly 31 weeks but baby is measuring way ahead. Which also makes me think my due date is wrong... The due date they've given me (November 20th) doesn't match up to the date I conceived and I also didn't have intercourse around the time they suspect as I was in a family holiday without my partner.. If I go by my LMP and my conception date, I'm due 22nd October.

You can ovulate randomly for no reason and sperm can survive for upto 5 days inside the uterus. I was super confident on the date I ovulated as I was tracking everything. Turns out I ovulated 4 days earlier. Which looking at my tracking also tracks as correct. My baby is measuring about 2.5 weeks ahead but there is no possible way she is further along that the 33 weeks I am.

Yeah I felt the same. My original due date from my last period was Oct 16th but the due date they gave me at my scan was Nov 5th. Little girl is measuring 4 and a half pound, so not too big but I knew exactly when I’d had sex as I had a period the day after… very strange

Yeh your ‘due date’ can easily be wrong tbh cos it’s literally just based on how big the baby is at the 12w nhs scan. That’s literally all it’s based on

Yeah it’s weird. I had my last period on the 19th of feb. Even though I was celibate til March, my dating scan went back before my last period by extra 5 days as if my last period was on the 14th when it wasn’t.

So there is a huge difference in the development of an 8 week fetus and a 12 week fetus, so I can't believe they got that so wrong. What did they say at the 20 week scan? Was it along the same lines as your 12 week scan?

Yesss they can definitely be out For my 1st my original due date going by my missed period was 25th January but at the scan it changed to 17th January, he was born on the 24th so basically right on my original due date

@Katie they said to me at my 20 week scan that baby was measuring ahead. And then at my scan at 30 weeks they told me baby was measuring almost 3-4 weeks ahead...

@Natalie so strange! Definitely makes me nervous knowing baby can come a whole month earlier because they got it wrong🤦‍♀️

It does sound like they told you wrong at your 12 week scan. But I can't understand how they could get it so wrong. It's not just about measurements- developmentally they look completely different

What does your "12 week scan" look like?

I’d also be very surprised if they got it wrong by a whole month! I guess if the baby is measuring so significantly ahead, they may suggest induction anyway as otherwise baby would be measuring huge by the time you’re full term!

I know when I ovulated and the NHS moved my due date forward but only by a few days. I.e I’d calculated based on ovulation my due date should be 11 Nov but my NHS due date is 6 Nov based on the 12 week dating scan. I’ve not heard of a month discrepancy, I’d definitely suggest mentioning it to your midwife if you believe there’s a possibility your due date is so wrong.

@Katie honestly, my "12 week scan" where they told me I was actually 8 weeks looks a lot like a 12 week scan should tbh. And I've only just noticed that 🙃

@Eloise I've mentioned to my midwife and they've suggested checking to see if I'm dilated at all as if it's wrong that would make me 35 weeks now instead of 30+5. I also started losing bits of my mucus plug over the last few days so...

The 12 week scan is the most accurate way to calculate a due date, so should be more accurate than using LMP. I guess errors can happen though!! Can a clinician review your dating scan and confirm if there was an error?
