Did you not ask at the appointment?

I would call your midwife unit and explain how you feel and your questions. They should book you in to see a midwife who can help explain it to you. Or atleast explain it over the phone to you. Definitely not sit worrying about it. I’m in the uk.

Yes you should be offered one. I had similar measurements to yours and I was, and it also turned out I had gestational diabetes

She said nothing on the appointment when she did the measurement, this was on Friday .

in my opinion if nothing else, it should’ve been done to put your mind at ease. your stress and emotional health are major factors in both of your physical health, so i think things that may stress you out should be addressed whenever possible. i’m also someone who believes mom instincts are beyond understanding, so in my opinion if YOU feel it was necessary you should push to get a scan and voice your concerns. i hope baby is doing exceptionally well though! congratulations and good luck!

I was exactly the same, measured along the 60th centile whole way through, and at my 40 week appointment, I measured 98th. Midwife said it was normal and she would have been worried if baby hadn't grown like that 🥴 I then gave birth to a 10lb baby with no pain relief 😂 in hind sight I think I would have been more worried and stressed about labour if I would have been told I was having a big baby, sometimes ignorance is bliss, but if it is worrying you definitely ask for a scan x

Unfortunately it’s not a cut and dry yes or no answer. It depends on the trust policy. Your unit will be the only ones who will be able to explain the decision to you

The jump in growth happened over a long period of time (from 28w to 36w is a lot) so it’s not considered accelerated growth but since baby is plotting above the 97th centile that would usually expect a growth scan

@Becca for some reason she never recorded the 34th weeks measurements and said the baby was tiny 😃

@Lottie this is not true. The perinatal institute provide Guidance. This is not a policy. The same as every trust provides guidance. Guidance doesn’t have to be followed to the letter as it is not a policy. NICE also provides national guidance that again often differs slightly to trust guidances. All are based on different evidence so all are just as valid and elements of all can be taken to make a management plan. The latest GAP guidance (the guidance that should be used with GROW charts) actually offers no guidance on increased growth velocity and advise practitioners to refer to their own trust guidance As we also don’t know any of the other consultation history (if there were screenings for gestational diabetes, the out come of the palpation etc) we can’t say what may be causing this measurement as we are not the examining midwife. So to say the midwife has not done her job properly is a poor judgement to make

Do you have gestational diabetes or have you been tested for it? Because that’s a BIG leap in growth. Yes I would expect a growth scan with this.

I wound call your hospital triage and ask them to walk you through the growth chart scoring. They should be able to answer these questions over the phone.

Yes you should have been scheduled a growth scan. Give them a call. x

I was measuring the same with my little boy and I had a growth scan at 37 weeks that put him into the 84th percentile, he was measuring 7.3lbs at 37 weeks. Had him at 40+2 weeks and he was almost 9lbs

@Sarah I have been tested and the results were “normal”
