University as a mum

Hey girls!! I’m loosely planning on going to uni next September to become a children’s nurse! I was wondering if anyone else is/has gone into further education with a baby. He will be 14 months old when I would start so just figuring out if we could do it with the finances, childcare and also time to study!!! Please tell me your stories!!

I’ve just had my first baby in my first year of uni! Following this post to see what others have to say x

@Ffion congratulations!! He is so gorgeous!! x

Im gonna be back next month, will be on my third trimester😅 I think you can apply for UC since you'll be studying and have a dependent if that helps. I will go to Open Uni so it's easier to manage my time at home with baby as I really don't want to delay this, who knows if I'll have the same bandwidth later on, you know? Wishing you all the best, choose what feels right!

I’m hoping to start uni when my boy is about 14 months too! Have you been to any open days? I went to one last week for one of the unis I’m considering and it was really helpful. I found out I’ll be able to access a fund to fully cover the cost of his childcare which is a big relief!

I’m going back to uni in 2 weeks, my girls 7 months. It’s my third year Her grandma on dads side is looking after her on Monday, my scheduled day in uni. Thursday I have a half day then work after and football training at 8pm, so she’ll stay the night at her dads house. I work 16 hours a week as a gymnastics coach which I’m starting back in November. She’ll come with me most afternoons and be picked up after an hour by her dad when he finishes work to take home and put to bed. When I was pregnant I was told to drop out of uni by the council if I want housing otherwise not entitled. (Makes absolutely no sense I know) they also tried to get me to take maximum student loan so I’m not entitled to UC. I also didn’t listen to that as that’s money I have to pay back with a crazy interest rate. So I took no maintenance loan this year and I’ll still receive my UC. My uni also has all the lectures recorded so if I can’t go in I can catch up by watching the videos in my own time. Good luck xx

I just went back to school and my baby is 6 months. I think it was too soon. She’s a velcro baby and very attached to me so it’s hard to get any school work done. Plus i’m a stay at home mom so I have to make sure the house stays somewhat clean and my dogs are taken care of as well. I might drop my classes this semester because homes it just goes on the back burner :/

Hi I got pregnant in second year completed second year. After having my baby I completed semester 1 of year three then deferred for the year because it was way harder than I expected but only because I didn’t have a strong support system! I moved back in with my family and baby and completed semester two this year! It’s definitely hard but if you manage things well it’s achievable. My uni helped me loads with organising childcare, adjusting my timetable so things were more accessible and everything so definitely talk to your course director!
