Do children HAVE to go to Nursery?

I’m asking as I’m finding it hard to find a suitable nursery for my almost 3 year old. I know they have to go to primary school/ reception. But is essential for them to go Nursery? The nurseries local to me are private ones and asking for £900pcm for 3 mornings per week. I’ve been looking at ones that I can use the funding only and they’re so far away or very small and my toddler didn’t react well to viewings. I take her to various play sessions, events, outings, playgrounds, soft play etc every week. Would love advice.

No children aren’t required to attend nursery. I guess the advantages are that your child becomes used to being around other children, learning to share, communicate, socialise etc. and be comfortable being without a parent around. My daughter took a long time to settle but her development has leapt hugely as a result of the nursery. £900 is a lot though, her private nursery is £490 for three half days. Perhaps a childminder might be more reasonable? Good luck!

You could just wait until next September and get her into school nursery? I believe you don’t have to pay anything for that

The definitely don't have to go to nursery, and they don't even have to go to school either, we are homeschooling my little boy. It sounds like you are already doing enough to get her used to being around other children with all your groups etc! If you dont have to send her, I wouldn't stress about it 😊

No need to go at all. The only thing to consider is that it may be helpful for them to have some time away from Mum in preparation for full days in reception. My boy goes in for 2 mornings a week. It costs £360 a month.

Nope, they don't have to go to school either! My eldest didn't go to nursery, just straight to school

Neither of my children go to nursery. My family give me childcare. I worked in a nursery when I was 18 and know a lot of people that still do. I would never in a million years send my child to one. Full of teenagers who couldn’t care less about the children. A lot gets covered up and a lot you see if for show x
