Signed off

Has anyone ever been signed off work due to mental health? I’m really stressed at the moment which in turn Is making me very low and work is the main cause so my doctor has suggested taking a few weeks off. I’m so scared to hand my sick note into my manager and to go back already and it’s making me think is being signed off even worth it 😢 has anyone ever done this and found the break helped or did they feel worse going back? I’m so sorry you’re going through this, you need to try to prioritise yourself now! In December of last year I was diagnosed with post natal depression, I wasn’t advised to take some time off work but it got so difficult for me to manage I decided to hand my notice in and left early January. Personally it was the best thing I’ve ever done - I’m in a fortunate position with my partner where I can stay at home for the time being and I’ve been able to take care of my mental health properly which has allowed me to be a better mum. I didn’t want to be signed off as I didn’t want that or my return looming over me so I just left xx

I took a break when I was pregnant because I was doing night shift and finding out I had health problems going on too, was stressful, I took about a month off and when I went back I felt a little rough at first, clearly bc you've had some time off, but after you get in the mode you feel a lot better and over that break you can find ways that'll help you manage your stress levels while at work, I hope you feel better soon love❤️

Not been there myself but here's my advice. Take the time off, do some self care, rest, get yourself into a good/better headspace (howeveryou find this best to do, speaking to therapist, friends etc). Also use the time to figure out what at work is the issue, is it you or your job. From there you can figure out if you need more support/ training/therapy etc to help you or if you need to speak to people at work to improve things or resolve there. If you don't do the above, you'll be going back to work in the same situation you are now, but a few weeks later. There's no shame in taking the time for yourself if you need it and it's not easy, but it will be worth it in the long run. Good luck
