Pre-conception Blood Tests

Hiya all, I’m 35 years old and I’ll start trying to conceive in 2.5 months. Have anyone been able to do pre-conception blood tests (colesterol, vitamins, etc) on NHS? I’d like to know if everything is ok and start taking supplements if needed. Any insights are much appreciated!

I don’t think it’s something the NHS will provide you with. You better find a private place. I’ve got blood tests done through onedaytest, a lot of options to choose from.

I had blood tests on the NHS I requested after I did my research and found out vitamin D deficiency has an impact on fertility but I already had 3 miscarriages when I requested and they had my history, also I was 41 at that time so I had FSH and tyroid levels tested. Have to say I cried a lot about my FSH results as it was a bit high and I thought I wouldn’t be able to conceive, then I read it changes and not very reliable measure. I supplemented with extra vitamin D (strong dose for 6 weeks) and ubiquinol and omega 3 and I have a 14 month old baby now.

Not something that is offered on the NHS as a pre TTC thing You could pay for them privately at a fertility clinic.

Thank you all for the insights. Would this be something Vitality could possibly cover? I’m a bit afraid to call and asked them based on the way my GP treated me when I asked for blood tests.

I just put in an econsult form saying “request for blood tests LH, FSH, Prolactin, Testosterone, SHBG, Ferritin, Folate, VitD, Full blood count” and they did it for me and I picked up the blood test request form. If you don’t wanna pay for it privately just act like you’re concerned about PCOS or something and ask for blood tests and if you want something specific ask them if they can add it on. Or add it on yourself on the form when you pick it up. Just write the test on it and it’ll get done.

Thanks a lot Jo, will def try it!
