For those of tou who's babies are not in nursery yet, what are you teaching your babies at home?

I feel like I should be teaching my LO more things during the day as he's not in nursery yet.

Animal sounds, recognises which animal is which so she cannot say cow or sheep but can pick them up and do the sounds, we know a few body parts again pointing to eyes pointing to nose, we are trying with colours but she’s not quite there abs we do mention counting but I think it might be too early I just mention things as she really picks up on repetition.

Great thanks, Kate. My LO understands numbers 1 - 5. Can't quite say it, but he tries, lol. He can also point to his head and nose. I guess we can try to do more body parts. I like the animal sounds idea. I'll try that too xo

I don’t think I’m actively teaching her anything, but we read so many books so that covers animals/colours/numbers etc, if I’m cleaning or cooking I’m talking to her all the time and explaining what I’m doing. They pick up so much without us realising.

We are just learning through play. Messy play with sand and paint etc. active play outside. Reading books, singing songs. They will learn from that, I don’t actively teach my toddler anything. We just interact and play all day basically. Books with sounds, world map on the wall is great, sorting blocks, kinetic sand, water doodle mat…

My son isn’t in nursery either I just let him play sing to him and read tbh he has pretty good understanding from daily boring tasks I always think getting them involved like a kitchen tower is great!

Read lots of books, imaginative play, label basic items and body parts, animal sounds, people, etc. you can do colours as well and counting but they will get picked up later on.

Oh and lots of songs
