Back to work Q and UC

I'm currently on UC and surviving but wanted to put my son in nursery for 1-2 days a week for social development and to get a tiny bit of a break. I want to use the free 15 hours you get so I need to be working to qualify. Does anyone know how much you need to earn before your UC payment is reduced? I'm trying to weigh up what's doable with the nursery surcharges etc too. Thanks!

On my statement it says the first £404 doesn’t affect the monthly allowance not sure if that’s the same for everyone?

@Claire yes this is correct if they pay your rent however if you do not need rent paid you get a bigger work allowance

so you could only earn £101 a week however to qualify for the 15 hours working 15 hours you need to earn £137 a week 18-20 before tax and £183 a week 21+

@Roxy ahh good to know 😊 x

@Claire I earn £171 a week I get deductions but I still am much better off working as it’s still extra due to the work allowance so only the rest after the £404 gets deducted x

I thought you were entitled to free hours even if you don't work?

@Jess yes once 2

@Roxy did not know this!

Thank you everyone 🧡
