Hiring live in nanny advice - does anyone have any helpful info on the ins and out of all this and cost variations they’ve experienced, know of..
Will actually be moving from outer London to Dorset.
Have a 8 month old. Am a solo mother.
And looking at either help of ‘live out’ nanny (through an agency) to help 3/4hrs a day during the week while working from home.
Or a live in nanny.
- But I really don’t need full days and one of the Nanny’s that’s contacted me on an independent site is looking for a live in role but ideally full time.
Trying to work out the cost comparisons, benefits of both options and what will be more cost affective and best suited really.
Any advice would be really appreciated if you have experience of this or know someone that did

@Paola thanks so much for this. I wasn’t sure if the laws changed since we left the EU regarding au pairs. And or if au pairs were allowed to care for babies of this age. Can I ask how old your LO was when you started with one? And if you came across any problems when not meeting them prior in this country for an interview etc and then them arriving and possibly it didn’t work out? Thanks so much for sharing the link, will have a look. As ideally although English speaking was thinking of prospect of Spanish & English speaking nanny Thanks again for your reply

Hi, I have a live in nanny. I had a lady coming from Zimbabwe, I paid for visa/tickets/transfer.. then £250 a week and all expenses paid for. She used to finish around 8 latest when I got back from work.. and weekends off (sometimes she worked occasionally weekend if we had something book where LO shouldn’t come and we paid little extra) Now LO is at nursery we have an other live in nanny from Italy, she is with LO 2 days a week and sometime pick up from nursery and stay with him until we get back (8ish latest) and we pay £500 pm plus expenses.
