Babysitter

So I have to leave my 7 month old baby with a babysitter for the first time tomorrow evening (I have never had experience with a babysitter and how everything works). I’m just feeling a little odd about it. We messaged and confirmed the specifics on Friday and Saturday - she said every time she has a client for the first time, she requires the full balance upfront as this is security for her business. So I transferred the full payment yesterday and messaged her - no reply. So I messaged her this morning - no reply. I thought she’s gone cold turkey on my so I just called her now - no answer and then a minute later she replied back saying it’s all good and the payment has been received and she’s still available for tomorrow - no mention of why she didn’t reply or anything. She has a fb page and everything seems legitimate. It’s only for two hours - 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Am I just being paranoid or should I cancel everything? How does babysitting work? Can anyone share their experience of hiring a babysitter?

I’ve not had experience with babysitters myself, however, that doesn’t sit right with me how she requested full payment upfront and then “ghosted” you before finally replying. As for paying her before the service it should’ve been after she babysat your little one. How old is she? Has she got any experience? Has she got paediatric first aid?

Is she a registered baby sitter with qualifications? It sounds a bit dodgy if you ask me but if she doesn’t turn up as arranged you can get your money back from the bank as a fraud/dispute xxx

I found that odd too but she said it’s only for the first time. Later on, I can pay her after she has babysat. Yeah, she mentions on her fb that she has 7 years of experience in the childcare industry and has paediatric first aid, DBS. She’s 22 years old.

@Bethaney How do I check if she’s a registered baby sitter?

I totally get like paying a small fee to “secure” the place but not the full amount that seems a bit dodgy. So if she’s 22 years old and has 7 years experience it means she started at 15 years old which according to the NSPCC they don’t allow it until the person is 16 and above. You can check if she is registered by checked the OFSTED website or with your local council and you should also be able to get a copy of her DBS and paediatric first aid certificate x

I’d be asking for the proof of DBS and other qualifications. She can’t be 22 and have 7 years of experience because anything before 18 won’t count as anything other than work experience not she would not have been qualified at that age it’s more like a pocket money job xx

I’d personally feel too anxious in the situation 😢🫶🏻 not the behaviour you would want with leaving your LO with them x

Thank you for your replies everyone. I went with your opinions and my instincts and cancelled it. I guess I can’t get my money back but it’s better safe than sorry

I’m sorry to hear that but it’s definitely better to be safe than sorry x
