Universal credit

Hi there, My son just turned 3 recently, he has disability and currently we are receiving universal credit. They book me a telephone appoiment about work search it says in the journal... I am just a bit worries because I want to work but at the same time I am the primary carer of my son which need me a lot because he have therapies etc. I am just worried they will tell me I need to rush to find a job and I can not manage the drop offs and pick ups from nursery( he goes only morning few hours for inclusion) Anyone have similar situation? Thank you

Do you receive DLA for your son?

@Laurie Yes I do

Do you claim carers allowance? You're a carer technically so you won't have work commitments. You can also get the carers element of UC too

@Laurie Thank you for letting me know! I didn't know about the carers allowance but in the UC they know I am the primary carer for him. Thank you

You can also get an extra 200 a month from UC if you report a change and say you have a disabled child

You will have to apply for a careers allowance, if you are eligible then you do won’t have to work.!!
