Did you know a lot of post partum depression and rage can be a sign of vitamin deficiency?

I don't get sad I get mad post partum and after some research and a blood panel I've decided to up my iron intake and omegas intake and I feel mucho better I feel way less grouchy at my spouse and pet now 😂😂😂

I only knew that because I knew from personal experiences normal depression & mood issues can be from vitamin deficiencies specifically vitamin D most the time

I did know this but I never know what to try that works

@Cameron you’ve gotta see a D.O as your pcp n get full blood panels done to know for sure what your body is actually in need of

I also suffered with my first 2 and with my 3rd I took both omega 3s&iron and boom same thing way less ragey!!!

@Kayleigh right it's almost instant at first I thought ugh not working cuz I was already taking iron but I switched from supplements to liver and molasses instead of the pills and it worked way better I guess I absorbed it better

As a postpartum doula I know this and usually try to tell moms to get their blood work checked but not everyone listens. But yes a lot of PMAD is due to a deficiency and I find it INSANE that doctors do not check for that when their patients express having PPD or PPA and go straight to psych meds or they shut down patients when patients want to request a blood panel saying “your hormones are just out of whack there’s no need”

@✨Wis 🇭🇹 it is crazy because as a person who raised goats for years your vet will tell you to get vitamins and up the goats nutrition after birth but for humans doctors are like nope take these hormone disruptive meds and that's that it's crazy

Yes. Unfortunately I got blood work twice and all my levels were fine, still had PPD 🫤

@Brittany was it a full panel blood work or a regular one? Do you remember if your vitamin D, estrogen and progesterone levels were included?

@✨Wis 🇭🇹 yes. I paid out of pocket to get one done. Got one through my OB and through my primary.

@Brittany okay. Deficiencies isn’t the only cause of PPD. Having pitocin during labor, birth trauma, mental health history, genetics, lack of adequate sleep and lack of support are also other things that can trigger PPD. But it’s good you did get that blood work done

@Jo yeah I really wish they did that blood panel first and checked all other options before going to psych meds but the medical system isn’t necessarily built that way, OBs aren’t necessarily trained that way either

Makes sense. I still take my prenatal vitamins and when I go a week or so without taking it everyday I get very depressed. I mean I’m still depressed while taking them haha 😅 but it’s worse when I don’t take my vitamins.

Wow I had no idea.

I had a blood test following feeling unwell after giving birth and a bit of ppd. since taxing vitamins recommend by drs as my levels were low. I have been feeling so much better and happier
