Is there a way around the preschool birthday cut off?

I live in central Jersey. My son’s birthday is November 17th. So he will be 2 in two more months. I would ideally like to send him to preschool next school year but the cutoff to get free preschool in my town is that the child has to be 3 or 4 by October 1st. So idk does anyone know if they make exceptions sometimes? He will be 2 almost 3 next September. He’s very advanced speaks in full sentences already I think he would do so well in school. I’d feel bad he’d have to wait a whole extra year to go then he’d be 3 almost 4 by then.

Following because my twins birthday is Oct 5 and I’ve been stressing about them delaying a full year over a few days

I think there's a test they can take but I believe that's to get into kindergarten, not preschool. Personally I would keep my kids at home until the year right before kindergarten so they can go to prek if that's possible for you.

You can go to the board of ed or superintendent and they should have a child study team. They may be able to test him forward. IF the preschool is state or township funded not private they might be able to help.

Same. I live in Essex county and they require that the child turn 3 by October 31st and my daughter is born in November. I tried to see if they could make an exception but they don’t. It really sucks! Cause I know my daughter is ready for school

No, if your child has delays, you can contact early intervention for services but it’s no preschool. They are strict in NJ and will not accept children past that cutoff.

@Diana it’s called abbott mostly all schools with prek have it as long as they’re potty trained

@Angel I think it’s okay, because if he can’t go till next year, he’ll be 3 going on 4 but be in pre-k 3 so he’ll just be a little older then the kids.
