Hey mamas, just wanted some advice about primary schools enrolment - my son is only 2 and currently going nursery but when should I look into applying for reception? Or would he start in nursery at the school?
Also does he have to go to Pre-School??

If you want them to go to school nursery you need to get in touch with the school as different to applying for primary school place

He can start in the nursery in the school if you want, however it will have no bearing on getting in to the school. So it may be less upheaval to leave him where he is. Yes you apply the year before he is due to start. I suggest viewing a few to get a feel and take it from there, and to keep in mind catchment areas.
Some schools have an expression of interest form you can fill in as well just to let them know you’re interested 😊 it also gives you a bit of a foot in the door too 👌🏻

You apply the year before they are due to go to school, so I think they start opening applications next September for kids starting September 2026 (this is what I read yesterday when I googled a similar question) x
