Nursery or preschool

My daughter is almost 3 years old and goes to nursery. She's not due to start school until September 2026, but I wonder if I should apply for preschool or keep her in the nursery until then? Let me know your experiences, it will be of great help!

I'm planning on keeping our little boy in nursery but that's more because I can't facilitate the pre school hours just yet due to my working hours

I’ll be sending her to nursery still but she’ll be in the ‘preschool group’. My son will still be at the same nursery so it will be easier to keep them both at the same place. I’m also a teacher so I won’t be able to just send her for mornings or afternoons.

I think the main advantage of preschool is making friendships for starting school, that said my daughter didn't start until reception and hasn't had any problems, she's now 8 😊

Same thing as Kirsty. My little girl is already in Nursery & will move up to Preschool group when she turns 3. I thought about putting her into a School Nursery but tbh she’s so happy at Nursery, she’s made great friends it would break my heart to pull her out. Also can’t do the school nursery hours either x

I'm keeping my son in nursery until he goes to school reception

Thank you for your replies! My nursery doesn't have a preschool group but she's learninga lot and made good friends there. I think the best thing would be to keep her there until reception starts x

My boy isn't at any yet but they're all attached if that makes sense, so he's starting in the nursery, then moving into the official school nursery as soon as there's space (hoping he gets to go on the January intake). We know the staff in the different rooms and that's what was recommended to us by the nursery manager. Our boy is also top centile for height so he would probably be quite intimidating to the really little ones if we held him in the younger group 🙈 but they're all on the same site as school so most kids at the school move through the different nursery rooms before starting reception together.
