I would check with the teachers but at my school, pre-k kids learn to recognize the letters and learn the sounds they make, and practice writing their names!

Pre-k atleast the school may kids attend they recommend they know how to count to 20 before kindergarten

Shapes, identifying lower case and upper case letters, the alphabet a-z, colors, tracing letters/words, practice writing their name, and sight words, numbers.

Honestly, some of the education based kindergarten checklists are kind of ridiculous (coming from someone who was a preschool teacher). The basics, though, are recognizing their name when written, shape and number recognition, ability to count to at least 10, and can properly hold a pencil and scissors. There are a lot, but if you google "kindergarten checklist," Most of them have the same things. Independence and communication are not always included in kindergarten readiness lists but are very important. Being able to dress/undress themselves. Ability to use the bathroom independently. Able to ask for help. At least starting to work on emotional regulation/ self-control. Can follow directions.

@Taylor hi can I ask you a question you said you're a pre k teacher .. I'm homeschooling my kids so far this yr at least &I'm starting with a k and my other 3 pre k. Is that the best way to see if students are on track -googling kindergarten/ X grade checklist - to make sure they are on track? Do you have any good sites to use as a checklist?

@Kat G spot on — I also do simple within 10 math sentences with my little

@Francess I’m homeschooling too! Generally I think you should look on your state’s learning requirements for the grade level. That should give you a list of what they should be learning.
