Primary/preschool

When do we start looking at preschools/ primary schools? I'm assuming as she's 3 in less than 6 months I should look into preschools that are in primary schools..but unsure the waiting list/application list for primary schools? Any help/information would be appreciated! First time mum & also single parent so no guidance from 'dad'

I would also like to know. It’s so confusing and there’s no info anywhere about it as the council just says ‘apply to the individual school’ for nursery/ preschool. It all feels very overwhelming. Apparently they have various start dates throughout the year so it’s not just the September after they turn three like I originally assumed

So, your child can go to pre-school the term after they turn 3. So Sept, January, April start dates. From what I found you do not need to do preschool through a school. There are plenty of private preschools too. If your child is already in a nursery or with a childminder talk to them about their Early Years Educational Curriculum and how they prepare the children for school. I will be staying with my childminder for this academic year even after my child turns 3 in Feb. I am confident my childminder is meeting his educational needs right now. How you apply, no clue. Possibly yo the individual preschools?

Preschools normally you apply directly, even with the preschool within a school setting. Find one you want and see if there’s info online for them and how to apply. Our local preschool takes applications from October after they turn 2 for the following September (after they are 3). School applications are the September after they turn 3 (age 4 to start). We are staying in nursery instead of preschool. And got school we have to apply through the council site for a place.

Thank you ladies! My daughter currently goes to a private nursery which has a preschool but my local primary school also has a preschool so I presume I just contact the preschool for information 😊

@Roxy FYI one of the reasons we are staying with nursery rather than preschool is that preschool doesn’t do the same hours (7.30am-6pm) and we’d need to figure out wrap around care. Just in case that’s an issue for you too
