Big purchases

Hi, first time mum due in Feb. When is the right time to start buying things like prams and nursery furniture? X

I bought it all with 3 months to spare. It’s really up to you though and when you feel like you’re ready for it all to be in your way, and when you would like to put it all up.

For my first, I had his whole nursery set up and ready by 22 weeks!

i’d say a month before your due date if you have a low risk pregnancy, if you have a high risk pregnancy i’d say 2/3 months 💕x

I’d say it depends how much room you have to spare - we bought our around month 6 or 7 and it was great mental relief to know we had it sorted but it meant our living room was a bit cramped with boxes till we had enough time to sort the house and find a place to put everything

If get the pram first as mine took sooooo long to arrive and then when it did come, other bits like car seat come after I had bits and bobs being delivered and different times xx

Thanks 👍

Definitely the earlier the better, after the first 3 months! You never know what will happen in your pregnancy, how it will affect you mentally and physically! Once it’s out the way it will be a big relief and you can just rest and focus on yourself. But there’s no ‘right or wrong time’ to get stuff done

We have always bought second hand... We got an upper baby with all the extras for £300 and we used it for our son and still am.. ready for my second! We got second hand mamas and papas cot/toddler bed and drawers 👌🏻 saved loads. My recommendation is to look on marketplace x

I started buying small stuff right away. Like clothes etc. paci’s and teethers. Toys etc. I was worried about misc. so I think I got bigger stuff around 5-6 months pregnant. Now just did my big big purchase of a new stroller at 8 months! I also had this internal decision that even if I lose this baby - I know I’d be trying again so I would use this stuff eventually. My pregnancy was really hard and lonely since I’m a single mom and my baby daddy did not want us. So shopping kind of brought me a bit of happiness

I’m also due in Feb and thinking to wait until November’s Black Friday for buying the bigger things :)

Our LO was born in March 2022 but I bought most of the big stuff on Black Friday in November 2021 - I knew what I wanted I just waited to see if there were deals on those items x

We bought our pram and nursery furniture in Black Friday sales, it deffo saves you a couple of £100s! X

Around 28 weeks I started buying the big stuff (pram, car seat, cot etc) but I didn’t have it delivered until I was around 34 weeks so I didn’t have it all cluttering up the house 😊 x

I would say buy in the christmas/new years or black friday sales?

I would say buy things whenever feels right to you. I'm thrifty, so I tend to wait for things to go on sale. I'm due at the end of November, and won't be getting most of my nursery furniture until black Friday because I know they won't be in that room for months anyway and I'd hate to think how much I could have saved if I bought it earlier. We bought our pram at 16 weeks because we were at the baby show and got a good price for it, but we're not having it delivered until late September. A lot of bits we've borrowed or had gifted to us by friends and family, so we've been getting most things from around 15 weeks onwards xx

we bought our pushchair at 20 weeks but only because the one we wanted went on sale! nursery furniture we didnt get until she was 4 months old because we didnt see the point when she wasnt sleeping in there yet!

If your due in feb wait til Black Friday sales for the big stuff. Thats what I did with my first and she was a feb baby, then some bigger stuff can still be a 2-3 eeek delivery but at least its coming and not taking too much space up x

i was low risk pregnancy and bought things for the nursery 6 weeks before my due date! we set up the nursery 2 weeks before my due date tho! i was still super active in late pregnancy and just knew baby wasnt gonna come early, plus i hate just having stuff standing around to collect dust, thats why we waited so late to do it! i would recommend setting up the nursery a bit earlier tho, maybe at the end of ur second trimester when ure still able to carry things and be up and about!

I bought them after my 12 week scan x

My baby was due end of December. I did my purchases during Black Friday sale. And of top of that got 15% off from John Lewis purchases because I made a baby list with them. I would use big sale windows to make your purchases.

When they’re on sale.

Make a list - I bought things adhoc during sales and offers. Picked up some bargains!! Saved a lot of money!
