Pre-walkers or walking shoes?

My little one has been walking for 5 or so weeks now. The room leader at his nursery recommended we get him some pre-walkers but we went to Clarks this morning and they recommended the next stage shoes. However the sales assistant didn’t seem to know that much about children… Just wondered what others are using / would recommend?

My daughter has been walking for 2 months, and I still use clarks pre-walkers. I think the soles are a lot more flexible, so easier for them to walk in while they're still very unstable/learning, but still durable enough to wear outside and at nursery.

I would 100% go with pre walkers. He isn't walking outside for miles, go as soft and as flexible

Thanks both, looks like I’ll be heading back to Clarks. So annoyed, I went there because I thought they’d know what they were talking about!

Honestly either are fine. I prefer the pre walkers since easier to get on as they are flexible but my LO happily toddles around in both. Clark’s are technically right but you could use both

We got the pre walkers but 3-4 weeks later got some trainers from next as he was more than comfortable! Next do wide fit too xx

George Asda have some great ones cheap price

I think it depends on the shoe. We got pre walkers once walking and they kind of collapsed within a few weeks (we do walk a lot though). We went back to Clark’s and got proper walkers but they are super light trainers that can basically bend in half and I think they are a good in between! May be worth a different branch too as I’ve had two very different experiences at Clark’s shops!

I’d use pre walkers as long as possible as they are flexible and more like barefoot shoes. I found Clarkes terrible though, he refused to wear them and they are so stiff for pre walkers. We have finally found that Nike swoosh 1 are amazing and have barefoot quality, so amazing for his foot health (which I take quite seriously!) We just go to Clarkes to measure now then shop elsewhere

@Sophie this is a great point. We have three pairs of first shoes from Clark’s and two are light and flexible and one pair is super inflexible, so I found that hard. So it kinda depends on the shoe.

@Sophie I will get pre-walkers for as long as I can. They are so much better for little ones’ developing feet and honestly even adults feel a huge benefit to wearing barefoot type shoes if walking a lot. Also, Start Rite are even softer than Clarks and have many pre-walkers on sale online. If you know the size I’d recommend ordering some of theirs.

we had the pre walkers for about a month and now have some trainers from next snd crocs he wears most of the time

@Kiera btw I bought crocs and my nursery manager mentioned that ideally they shouldn’t wear crocs until 6-10 months after they start walking as they don’t offer enough support. Thought I’d mention it just in case

We’ve just got George pre walkers! They look like Clark’s but were £6.50! They’re so cute x

My baby has been walking for about 3 months and I’m still getting her pre walkers from Clark’s because they’re really cute 😂 but she has some proper walking shoes from Start Rite now as well which are more flexible than Clark’s anyway xx

My son really didn’t get on well with Clark’s, the sole wasn’t flexible and made him very unsteady, I got him some nikes (second hand 😅) and it was an immediate massive improvement so will be going for Nikes again this time with my daughter 😊
