Maternity Allowance

Can I just understand the difference between smp and ma? SMP is obviously much higher and how are we supposed to live on £184 a week? 😪

you get SMP if you have been working for the same employer for so long. you get MA if you are not entitled to SMP but still have worked. SMP isn’t a lot higher at all, it’s higher for six weeks and then it is the same amount as MA. x

I have an appointment today to see what I can get topped up with universal credit. I can keep you posted … 😬

As far as I'm aware smp and MA are the same. Unless the company you work for tops it up

The only real difference between SMP and MA is with SMP you get 6 weeks of 90% of your average weekly earnings. With MA you go straight onto the lower amount. It’s not actually a huge difference xx

SMP is £184 a week. Unless your employer has a policy that gives you more.
