Nursery/kindergarten- does yours have a male teacher/practitioner? Does it bother you at all?

My sons new nursery that he started Monday has a male practitioner and he's lovely, I have no issue with it but I was wondering how common it is these days? He's my sons favourite and clings to him the whole times he's there 🤣 I don't know if some people might feel strange about it though , just curious on everyone's opinions !

2 males at my sons nursery and they’re amazing!

We have a younger man at the nursery and the kids love him. I think it’s really important for kids to have male and female role models/caring figures around them more. Not all have that at home.

My lg currently isn't in nursery but I wouldn't mind - I think it's great if more men are getting into childcare.

I agree a mix of role models is important. I care more about how they are with the kids than personal things like age, gender, background etc. In addition we make a big thing about telling our daughters they can be anything they want when they grow up, we should tell our sons that too. Demonstrating is even better.

We have a couple, and the manager who is pretty involved is a male. Not one ounce of an issue & it’s definitely good to get different role model types involved.

Yes and he was there when my eldest was there 8 years ago too. The kids love him.

No males in the nursery I work in and none at my girl’s nurseries but I have worked with some amazing male practitioners in the past so it wouldn’t bother me at all!

My daughter’s room lead is male. Camp as they come (the pride hair went down very well with kids) and amazing with the kids!

School nursery my daughter had a male TA. He also does the PE classes across the school. Didn’t really occur to me to think anything more.

I used to work in out of school care with 3-5 year olds. We had a man working with us for a little while (the hours sucked so he went elsewhere) he was fantastic!

Some of the best teachers I've worked with (I'm a teacher) have been male. The nursery my daughter will go to has a male teacher and I've been told he's utterly brilliant.

My child isn't in nursery but if she was I wouldn't have any problem with a male teacher. Most men aren't perverts and people forget women can be perverts as well.

I’ve seen some amazing male teachers who teach kindergarten (I taught elementary for 9 years). My kids’ school does not but I would gladly put them in that class if they did.

At my daughter’s first nursery there was a male that they hired prior to us interviewing them, but they let him go because too many parents complained. I wouldn’t be comfortable with a male there. Not comfortable with a male pediatrician or nurse either since they want my daughter to strip, the last male nurse was a little too excited to see my daughter (2 years old) naked

I think it's lovely to see, especially for the boys to see role models in caring professions. Think about it... if you flipped it people would (rightly) be up in arms. Like, does it bother you that there are female engineers?! 😅 It's 2024 - everyone can do every job and that's wonderful.

Wouldn't bother me at all

When my little girl 1st started there were 2 males, 1 was the manager but always in with the kids. I had no issues with them. When I was growing up and my mum was a childminder there was a male childminder around the corner and never thought anything of it
