First nursery settling in session was horrendous!

My little one cried on and off for the whole hour! My husband had taken her and was asked to go in at one point to try and settle her. I'm taking her tomorrow for a 2 hour session and I'm absolutely dreading it. Is anyone's little one struggling to settle too?

Mine did fab the first hour, then the next day he cried on an off for the whole hour and had two hours today but I was called after 50mins to go and get him! They've offered more settling in sessions to help, maybe your nursery could too?

Oh bless him! That's so good they have offered you extra sessions, hopefully it will help. My little one is due to start next week so they can't offer any more unfortunately but I might drop her in later for the first 2 weeks so she can get used to it gradually

Mine started nursery in May. She cried on and off during both settle sessions and on her first full day, I got a call at midday asking me to pick her up, but after that the only time I’ve had to pick her up is if she’s been ill. The first few weeks were hard though- she’d cry at drop off and sometimes be crying when I picked her up, but it got easier after about a month and she is so happy there now. It’s a big change for them but she will get there. The staff will have suggestions of how to help her settle- for us they suggested bringing a few toys in from home and her favourite foods (not all nurseries will allow this though). Hope it gets easier for you soon 😊

My first nursery I had to go back within 10 minutes she was that bad and then they wanted me to come in for 2 hours - I was like but we didn't manage 10 minutes!? So I've moved her to a day care in a home settling with 3 other kids and so far so good. She just clings to the main lady but we're getting there. Maybe it's the smaller settling that's been good for her. Maybe it's not the right place? Xx

@Hannah thank you for the comment, made me feel a bit better :) we haven't left her with anyone else before (she is EBF which makes it difficult) so I think it's going to take her a while

@Jess aw bless her, I hope she is getting on OK now. We have chosen a small nursery too as I thought the big ones would be too much. It's such a big adjustment for them!

Mine did horrible for the first 3sessions we had to add on extra sessions. We had I think 6 in total which he started making progress thankfully. Then his first week was split half days, full days, 3/4 days 🙄he’s 3 months in now and absolutely loves it!!! ❤️

@Ida aw I'm glad your little one has settled in now :) it went OK today, I had to go in twice to settle little one but you could you tell she wanted to explore, she just wasn't feeling confident quite yet. They have suggested she does less hours next week when she starts and then we build it up gradually

I took him for his first settle and as I was with him he was fine he would play and then crawl back to me to make sure I was there. The next settle session my husband took both toddler and baby and they both screamed 😬 this time he couldn’t stay with them had to wait in the office but they both thought he was leaving them there 🫣. Our baby was also super tired by that point and fell asleep because his routine was off. We can’t have anymore settle sessions as they start on Tuesday now. But hoping it’ll be alright our nursery don’t offer half days :/
