Opinions on vitamin k injection for newborn and injection for placenta expulsion?

Hi guys, my midwife today told me to consider these two things and put them in my birth plan. Just wondering what people who have already experienced birth feels about them? Thank you :) FTM here.

I had vitamin k given orally to my baby and had a c-section. Reading „vitamin k and the newborn“ by Sara Wickham helped me make up my mind about it.

I would like to do delayed cord clamping so don’t think id be wanting the placenta expulsion unless they could delay it slightly. I’m seeing my midwife on Friday so think i need to start a list of things I need to ask or think about.

My baby had the vitamin k injection in his foot. It’s honestly over so quickly I think he barely knew it happened. I had planned to push the placenta out naturally but ended up having a difficult and very long birth so the midwife suggested having the injection and I agreed. After the effort of birthing your baby, you’ll probably just be glad to have that bit over and done with. This is coming from someone who had done loads of reading and wanted everything to be as natural as possible 😂 I didn’t feel the placenta come out and just glanced at it on a table before they got rid of it. Also, someone else mentioned delayed cord clamping - that’s absolutely fine. I opted for this - it doesn’t take that long for the cord to turn white as far as I remember so you can absolutely wait for the cord and have the injection as well. They don’t interfere with each other.

Thank you guys, super helpful replies ❤️ I appreciate it a lot xx

I’d definitely recommend vitamin k as it can help baby to clot their blood when they need too. I’d would have the other injection based on the situation, if you have a low risk birth you don’t necessarily need. If you are at risk of bleeding then definitely have it. You can make that decision as and when it happens x

I opted for both, in my opinion I thought it would be beneficial for my daughter. And as for me I didn’t want to push my placenta after just pushing a baby out

We went for the vitamin k injection and in my birth plan I didn’t want the placenta injection but after waiting an hour, I had to have it, no issues at all with the injection, could hardly feel it and then the placenta came within 20 minutes x

I gave my daughter the injection at birth and have no problem with the vitamin k but I will be doing drops for baby 2. My girl has a permanent scar now from the injection due to incorrect administration, it’s cosmetic but I feel guilt about it. Didn’t get the placenta jab as I had a section so it came out the sunroof, had delayed clamping though.

My LG had the Vit K injection. due to a difficult labour the midwife adv to have the injection to which I had but as I opted for delayed cord clamping it was a little while before this was administered. My original birth plan I put to wait 30 minutes before injection to allow my body to do it itself.

I've always given my children the vitamin k injection & ive had the placenta injection twice. No mither at all didn't have to do anything it just comes out
