HFM

Hi everyone So I have had OCD in the past and still think I do in some ways especially around illness. My LO currently has HFM and has been playing with her toys. Once her ten days have come to an end how fo I go about clean up? What's everyone's experience been. I have known to go OTT so I really don't want to. What have other mums done please? Have you just used antibacterial wipes and that is sufficient and at what point did you clean? Once the illness was over or once spots disappeared as I'm aware spots can take longer to go (they can still have spots but no longer be contagious) I really need some advice as I cant seem to stop thinking about it atm. Also has anyone caught ut off their LO as an adult? If so, how has it been? What symptoms did you get? Thank you I advance. I really appreciate it.

My little girl and I had hfm last year. It's was awful. My hands were so painful I couldn't do anything. But it is really rare to catch it as an adult. And we just wiped things down with anti bac wipes. But probably missed some. My husband and our older boys never caught it.

HFM is why i invested in a steamer, steamed my whole house😅 also washed all fluffy toys, bedding and towels on 60 degrees. Things i couldnt wash on 60 i washed with plenty podwer and vinegar then hung out in the sun. It left me so traumatised🥴

Anti bac wipes should be fine. The virus won't live without a host so after a few days will die on surfaces anyway.

I wouldnt use anti bac wipes on anything kids put in their mouth as they’re full of chemicals and fragrances

My boy caught HFM and it was horrendous. I continuously cleaned but my other half caught it. He was really unwell with it but the docs said it was very rare, adults only usually catch it if their immune system is on the floor (docs words). My advice to you is to take vitamins to boost your immune system and obvs for the little one once they are better. Unfortunately even after all of my disinfecting my little boy caught it again! But it was no where near as bad. It just shows that if they are going to catch it they will, no matter what you try to do to prevent it. I never caught it so it was all a little strange but try not to over clean as it didn’t make a difference to us. 2nd time was wayyy more manageable. Also as a side note do expect some finger /toe nails to fall off after a while. Xx

Thank you everyone for your responses. I have been going out of my mind about cleaning and as a previous OCD avid cleaner i cant stop thinking about how much cleaning and how thoroughly I need to do it. I will give everything a wipe down but nothing too exhaustive :)

@Bekah how long after did your little boy catch it again?
