Tax Free Childcare UK

Can anyone explain how the tax free childcare works and how I apply please? Does the nursery make the deduction?

You need to set up a hmrc gateway account and then a childcare account. https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-tax-free-childcare Once you've applied, hmrc will send you a secure message via your childcare account to confirm. Then you can add your nursery provider to the childcare account and each time you transfer money, hmrc will top it up by 20%. You get £2000 a year however this is split into 4 equal payments pf up to £500 every 3 months. You will also need to reconfirm your eligibility for tax free childcare every 3 months. You can also look at claiming the free hours which can be done via your childcare account. For this they will send you a code to provide to the nursery who will then claim the free hours from the government directly and this should then show on your invoice. I have just done a post as well about tax free childcare being available up to the age of 11. The main eligibility criteria for TFC is not earning over 100k. Hope this helps!

Oh, forget to mention that once you have transferred money and hmrc has topped it up, you can then send payment to the nursery via the childcare account, too.

What age does this apply from?
