Yeah so my nursery basically charge something like a £5 for each morning and afternoon session which free hours are used. It's basically because even though the Government give us free hours, the nursery still has costs. My nursery has explained that this is so they can still have their cook and also do their trips out. X

Some charge a lot more than that. It's because the government don't pay the full rate so nurseries and childminders are left out of pocket. It is supposed to be optional but it is needed really.

Am looking online and it says that nurseries are not allowed to charge a top up fee though, just think what’s the point in free hours if they are going to charge you extra 🤷🏼‍♀️

They’re not allowed to charge top up fees but they are allowed to charge for “consumables”, so food, nappies etc x

My nursery are charging £5 per day for food from September x

We pay £65 a day and that includes nappies, food, baby wipes, milk etc that’s what was stated when our little one started there x

@Nicky but the funded hours will just cover the childcare part of that, I believe. Not nappies, wipes, food etc. It was included in your fees before, but what they get from the government won’t be enough for them to provide all of that as well. They’d be operating at a loss. Hence now needing to ask for a small contribution to cover those things

My LG nursery have said that lunch is not included as part of the funded hours. This is due to them using an outside company for meals which is completely understandable. We’ve always had to provide our own nappies/wipes and we contribute to the snack collection each week.

My nursery doesn’t even accept kids who need the funded hours!!

You can still claim tax free child care along side the free hours if you have been getting help what way too
