School Rant

So I’ve been trying to find answers about school since July. I hate my school district. They consolidated last year and it’s been chaos. The only information you can find they post on Facebook. They only gave out class lists until about 4 days before open house they finally said when open house is and I only found out because i have family in the town over and they put it up on roadwork signs then later made a Facebook post 2 days before. Still nothing about virtual so I called and they didn’t know. So I called the Monday morning of the open house to find out we needed to be there 9am-noon for virtual open house, pick up books, laptops, etc. So we rush over there and apparently the school board didn’t tell anyone bc the school board person said it had only been decided like the day prior. They didn’t have laptops, books, and none of the staff knew what was going on and all the other virtual parents didn’t know and had to show up to the chaos of the regular open house. Also, cherry on top, they didn’t have the correct books because they came out with a new edition and no one ordered them, still don’t know when we’ll get those. Virtual was supposed to start same day school did but my kids classes wasn’t active and had to sort through that. Also they didn’t have Language Arts AT ALL and didn’t find out that it was starting later until the teacher whose in a different part of the country told me, still no details. I got an email today that Language Arts is finally going to start next week—2 weeks after school has started and it’s a mandatory Skype meeting one hour per kid. It wasn’t supposed to be, it was supposed to be the same work at your pace class as all the rest. No warning, nothing. So now I have 4 days to figure out how the hell im supposed to fit work around two nonconsecutive hours during the busiest times of my shifts. I can’t afford to lose my job and can’t afford to hire someone to do their classes.

Wow I’m sorry Girl. If anything make it work for YOU even if the kids miss class or watch extra tv cause like you said, can’t lose your job so make it work for you. Things will get better soon❤️

Can you do an online home school?? I think those are their own pace. Not sure though.

@Ivy that’s what we’ve been going through the public school. However, we can’t afford it on our own so the school gets to dictate who, what, when, where… for two kids for the semester would be between $2-$3k. Worth it, but can’t swing it.

For anyone interested in an update: school started August 8th. It’s now August 29th and the school board was just now notified of the mandatory meetings because they finally answered the phone (meaning they learned it from me.) Still don’t have books, laptops, or their other supplies and don’t know when they’ll get them. I did lose my job because they didn’t want me to switch my schedule to evenings. I did try to hire a sitter. Sitter 1 wasn’t logging into their classes and sitter 2 couldn’t handle my kids. My youngest is not doing well with the classes. It’s stressful for both of us because I essentially have to sit through the class and teach him the material from memory and my notes. The teacher understands but is stuck as she doesn’t choose the materials or criteria.
