Free childcare hours

Does anyone know if you qualify for the free childcare hours as well as getting universal credit money towards childcare?

You would have to speak to your uc advisor as everyone's circumstances are different. Depending what you work you might be entitled to help, there's always the entitled to calculator to help give you a rough idea x

Hello, I receive full UC as I’m not working. My child is 2yrs old and will be starting nursery in September. 15 hours per week free. Hope that helps x

I’ve been told I’m not eligible. I’m working and getting UC but apparently I’m over the threshold 😩

Thanks both for your responses xx

@Jessica thats rubbish 😔 xx

So I’ve now found out there’s 2 schemes one for working parents and one for people on benefits or earning under £16k…so I am eligible but my childminder is not doing it because the they’ve made the process so lengthy and hard that a lot of childminders don’t want to sign up to it! Such a joke. Really infuriating 🤪

We get a little help through UC and it was an absolute pain to get the funding but we did manage! I work part time and my partner full-time but it didn't take my partner's earnings into account for whatever reason. Because I didn't earn a certain amount they wouldn't let me...yet people who don't work are entitled to it??? How does that work?! The people who are actually trying don't seem to benefit from it. Luckily, I work for my mum as well as my part-time job as she owns a pub, doing a bit of bar work, so I was able to take on a few more hours a couple of nights a week to make up the money and now we are entitled to it. Not ideal, but it works out better to get the funding. The whole system is backwards and makes me so cross! What i don't understand is people who don't work surely don't NEED childcare, so why are they more entitled than the people going to work?
