Nursery

I’m wanting to put my daughter into nursery twice a week so that I can go back to part time work. I was hoping I’d be able to get 15 hours free childcare however I’m not eligible for getting it because I’m not working. But as a single parent I cannot work as my daughter is not in childcare. I cannot afford to pay for it out of my own pocket at the moment. I’m really not sure what to do or who to turn to about this. I have tried the sure start centres but they told me to check the council websites, the council websites say I’m not eligible for childcare. Help!!!

You will eligible once you go back to work - can’t you add on the form that you will be working

@Amy I filled out a form saying that I would be able to work within 31 days and it said that I was still unable receive funding. It’s all very confusing 😂

As a single mum not working I’m guessing you claim benefits? If so, you will be entitled to free childcare when your baby turns 2.

If you claim Universal Credit and you’re working, they will pay up to 85% of your childcare costs, I was already working when I put a claim in so not sure how it works if you haven’t started yet. I have just looked on gov website, and it says if you cannot pay the first lot of childcare upfront they maybe able to help if you’re starting work… If you’re with a partner they also need to be working as well to be able to get any help towards childcare costs. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-childcare-costs#get-help-with-the-upfront-cost-of-childcare I am confused tho as I have also looked for you it says if you’re starting work you’ll be able to get 15 free hours so once you have a job lined up you just change your circumstances on your universal credit account x

You have to create a childcare account on the government website and apply for your code. You can put the date that you start work later, and then apply for jobs. You’ll get a temporary code to give to your nursery. Nursery wait times can be pretty long themselves though x

@Shann are you looking at the 2 year funding or the new 9 month funding? If your child turns 2 next month they won't be entitled to the 2 year funding until January
