Possible Cholestasis who do you contact?

This is going to sound silly but the last day or so I have had really itchy hands and arms and dr google comes up with cholestasis of pregnancy being a potential cause. It says to contact your GP or midwife. I have an appointment with my community midwife on Thursday. Should I wait till then to discuss it if it carries on? Or would you contact your GP before then? I've never had to contact my midwife but have called triage but not sure if this is something you go to triage for or if you go through your community midwife? To get blood test etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

i've been suspecting this about myself recently; at my last midwife appointment i spoke to midwife (not my usual) and she was going to do a blood test- but she forgot 🤦🏼‍♀️ so i'm going to possibly bring it up again at my next on tuesday. my itching has died down to what it was but still has its moments.. but mine is only on my right wrist (not palms or feet where they say it normally can be)

I would contact your midwife so she can do bloods for you x

@Meg he's mine is just on my hands but then now I'm thinking about it - it feels like it is all up my arms! I'm seeing my midwife on Thursday so will bring it up then!

@Nicole thank you ☺️

I’ve just been diagnosed with this. Do you have a maternity triage ward you can contact?

Think it says not to wait to contact someone if you have itchy on your pregnancy folder (if you got one). I was in Spain when it first happened, called maternity triage in U.K. but just waited until I was home 4 days later as didn’t want to go to hospital in Spain

@Jenny thank you for this! I do have a triage number and have called before but just wasn't sure if this was urgent or not! Itching has calmed down/ almost gone so if it continues over night I will call them.

Hey, I had cholestasis with my first one, don’t wait till Thursday, give the midwife’s/hospital a call tomorrow, they will arrange some blood test quickly and you will know, also they can give you menthol cream for the itching what is the best thing ever. At least it will let you sleep longer. Also they will monitor the baby a bit more often and probably offer induction.
