Nursery

Hi girls! Just a question about our funded hours. I got a message through today regarding the 15 hours starting from September but my daughters nursery seem to be adding loads of extras on now too and I didn’t know whether it was just standard procedure? We now have to pay for meals & we will be charged £10 every 15 mins if we are late for pick time. I can’t work out why, as costs aren’t being deducted from the nursery? X

We have this too. The funding from the government doesn't actually cover the cost of what it costs for the hours. So ours are saying the funded hours will cover the care for that day but that we will need to pay for consumables (meals nappies wipes etc) which is £15, we don't get charged this on days where the funded hours aren't being used

I think that's quite normal, the late pick up charge was there in all the nurseries I looked into and I'm pretty sure the funded hours covers staff/rates so we pay a small top up for food - £4 a day I think x

Our nursery also added loads. It differs per LA how much funding they actually get, so to still be able to afford staff costs and supplies they have to add bits to it (at least that’s how our nursery explained it…)

We have a consumables charge when using funded hours. It's frustrating but unfortunately they can't afford to run otherwise

The funding they receive covers the bare minimum and doesn’t usually cover what you would actually pay if you weren’t receiving them, so yes they are loosing money. It’s completely normal for nurseries to add supplementary fees. You are still getting childcare for a great deal cheaper than you would be without the funded hours.

It's normal as the funding they receive doesn't cover the actual cost, we pay £8.50 for 3 meals and 2 snacks £4.50 for a 7.30 drop off and if you are late its £5 every 15mins, they've always had this late charge in though
