Nursery - My LO still hasn’t started

I’m curious - my 2.5 year old still hasn’t started Nursery. I only want her to go Nursery to help her social and independent skills. I’ve looked around my area and I have these issues: • I only get 3 full days or 3 mornings per week for £900-£1k pcm INCLUDING funding hours! • Any places that do accept funding/ UC with no extra fee, there’s no space at all My partner works full time and I’m on UC and a SAHM for now. How is everyone’s LO in Nursery? I either can’t afford to put her in one or they’re all full. At this rate I’ll have to wait till she starts Primary School. I already have 100 things running through my brain and her not being in a Nursery is making me feel like I’ve let her down. Any advice or anyone in the same boat.

Don’t worry about it! There are so many that only go to nursery once they get their funded 30 hours. If your circumstances mean that’s when she will start then she will be absolutely fine! The fact that you’re worrying about it means you’re a good mama and you’ve not let her down at all! Have you spoken to UC as they paid for my little girls first 4 weeks at nursery and pay 85% of my fees. My circumstances are different as I don’t have a partner but if you don’t ask, you don’t get x

We’ve not done nursery because it just didn’t make financial sense for us! He’ll be starting pre school in November for a couple of mornings a week- because it’s attached to a school the session fees are much lower, but he’ll get funding in the January :)

Are there any preschools that do like morning sessions 9-12 ? X

@Abby-Lauren thank you, I will ask UC.

@Amy I haven’t tried any preschools. Maybe I’ll take a look at that, thanks

Pre-schools that are part of primary schools tend to be much cheaper and do morning/ afternoon sessions. With them being term time only you are able to use your funding and not pay any extra. For example the 15 hours would cover 5 morning sessions or 2.5 days where you’d most likely have to pay extra for lunch. I work at a primary school which has a preschool attached that takes from 2 so my son has been attending since he turned 2. He did 2 days during the last academic year and will be doing 3 days from September. Funding will cover 2.5 days so I’ll be paying for half a day and 3 lunches a week at a far cheaper rate than private nurseries 😊

@Bonnie thank you for this info, very helpful. I think yeah I will start to look at preschools

my little one goes to pre school which isn’t linked to a school they can go from 2 years old and even if you wanted to send lo extra sessions it’s not as expensive as nursery fees we just have to do both due to childcare in the school holidays x
