Nursery prices

Starting to think about getting my baby booked into nursery for when I go back to work next year but have no idea of prices or if I’d even be able to afford it! Does anyone know what a usual day rate is for nursery?

It varies. The only option available to us is £44-65 a day- 44 for half days, ie. 8-1, 9-2, 10-3 etc. and 65 is for 7am-6pm which includes flexible drop off and pick up so I can find a job around those hours rather than rushing for 8ish everyday. I know we can claim back 20% or 85% off Universal Credit or get Tax Free Childcare but it all goes over my head honestly, I've spent most of my maternity stressing about it. Have a look in your area and swing them an email or look on their websites for details, or go for a childminder who are muuuuuch cheaper but in higher demand x

We popped our LG on a waiting list last Sept when I was 20 weeks pregnant and luckily just got a space there this week for when I go back to work in Feb! Our price for 3 days a week is 752 a month but with the tax free child care it goes down to around 601. They have jusy announced the extra 15% off as well but we can't apply yet due to us not starting until next year! It varies per area so definitely shop around!

@Emma ...just a small.word of caution for u..I just checked about the extra 15% and realised we can't get it. Our childminder is registered for the initial 20% so we're getting that, but there's a separate registration for the 15% that they need to do which costs £500 - and it needed to be completed by 2nd August...where was the notifications for this I wonder!?? ...needless to say I'm raging, but it is a big ask of the provider to do this!

Our Little boys full day rate is going to be £53 for 7.30am-6pm I booked his place for mid September back in April x

@Colleen sorry to jump in but where was the info about it costing £500 to sign up? I believe the providers get an extra incentive of up to £1400 to sign up and ongoing payment per child. Ask them again, the info is confusing and vague!

@Carolyn i thought this was the amount being paid to the provider... it's all very confusing lol. I know that our nursery is signed up but they have told me today I can't apply until the child is in nursery.

@Emma this is the amount the childcare provider receives for signing up to the scheme so it costs nothing for them to sign up. I’ve been deep in the rabbit hole trying to figure it all out 😂

@Emma I sent the info across to my childminder and that's what she told me (although she did say that she needed to take time to look in to it more, but that was on 2nd Aug, and whatever I read said they had to register by that date!)...as u say, all v confusing, I will send that screenshot to my childminder though and try to reread things myself too....like any parent of young babies has the time to do that whilst in full time work!! 🙄

@Emma and @Carolyn thank u, I appreciate the info and have sent it across to our childminder now. I'm not sure if we've missed the boat entirely with being past the registration date (hopefully not!), but at least the childminder is more aware now

@Colleen yea I wouldn’t want you missing out because she misunderstood! It’s mad how we have to go hunting for this small bit of help 🤦🏼‍♀️ they haven’t made it easy!

I think it closes 20th Aug 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻fingers crossed. They don't make it easy for us to get help do they 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Ohh yay!!! Fingers crossed it can still get sorted. I have 2 LOs 18mths apart, so this would be a considerable saving for us!!!

It depends where you are but where I live it seems to be £59-69 for a full day. You also have to pay when the nurseries are closed.

£42 a day which decreases the more days they are in. This is in a rural area, I know when I priced ones in towns the price went up significantly.
