Working out in second trimester +

Is anyone doing any workouts/classes and feel comfortable doing them? I was doing reformer Pilates before pregnancy and have tried a few classes since being pregnant but I’m not confident it’s the best class to do now that I’m getting bigger I still want to exercise though as it helps my overall wellbeing. What’s everyone doing?

Yeah haven’t really changed what I do expect making adaptions ! Classes, functional fitness stuff and weights x

Yeah I am and I’m really glad to be keeping it up. Doing 3 to 4 hit sessions a week which is a mix of treadmill running and weight lifting. I tell instructors I’m pregnant ask for adjustments and avoid any lying on tummy, twists, or overly intense abs bits. Doing a bit of yoga and long walks- I go slightly easier than pre pregnancy and use an Apple Watch to monitor my heart rate to make sure I’m not going for too long at the max effort. I had mixed advise at the start but I was glad to stick to my own norm and plan to do it hopefully for the whole pregnancy even if it’s at a snail pace. As long as you feel comfy to do it I’d keep it up ❤️

I'm still running, very slowly and with breaks for my toddler in the pram, but I'm doing it!

Yep! I’m still lifting and doing some classes, including a bit of running. I’m just slower than normal and lifting at 70-80% max. I’m having twins so I’m about 6 weeks bigger than you’d expect, running is getting a bit slow and heavy now but I’m going to keep lifting, swimming etc as long as I can! Just do what feels comfortable, you know your body.

Yes still working out. However I’ve now switched to pregnancy focused strength classes on YouTube. However I’ve know lots who have continued with gym classes and the instructor has highlighted options for them

Yeh I’m still running 5ks, a boxercise class and I do an hour a day dog walk. I just take the exercising down a notch if I feel it’s a bit difficult - definitely feels harder now 24 wks but don’t want to stop until I have to (won’t stop the walks)

I'm 22 weeks and I had to completely slow down cause of fatigue, food poisoning, sickness etc, used to go to gym 5x a week plus 15k a day. Now thinking of starting prenatal yoga to slowly ease into it and hopefully help with labour! x

I'm doing less than usual: quite an intense Aerobics class, a challenging yoga class, walking, and the odd 2nd trimester home workout x

I loved reformer and mat Pilates before pregnancy but I’ve found the classes made me a bit anxious as they never made adjustments for the pregnancy - I’m sure it was all safe but one class I was on my back the whole time etc. I’ve found some pregnancy reformer classes (one is in Clapham prob a bit far for you but called Avalon and it’s great) and pregnancy yoga and I’m just doing those along with walking x

I’m lifting 4 times a week, pregnancy safe core and pelvic floor exercises also treadmill. Lifting less weight now than before and modifying workouts. I’m going to try barre to see how it goes xx

Just chasing, lifting a nearly 3 year old .. that’s my workout 😂 have done a couple Pilates classes but didn’t enjoy as much having to skip various things. Going to try aqua aerobics I think

I sat down when I found out I was pregnant and Iv barely got up since 👍

Just to add a different perspective for anyone reading…. I did 4-5 weights and hiit workouts a week pre-pregnancy. Lots of issues in trimester 1 meant I had a month off work sick and was totally unable to get off the sofa. Also told by EPU to rest. I was desperate to reach 12 weeks and even though I loved my classes, I didn’t have the physical energy to go. I’m now 22 weeks and have started doing 30min RWL pregnancy trimester 2 classes on their app. They are a lot less intense and challenging than what I was doing pre-pregnancy. I’ve lost my fitness levels and muscle strength from the time off and now more limited. But I’m trying. I accept this and try to embrace a new style of activity because I’m just so grateful to still be pregnant. Do what you enjoy, just do what you can, and don’t compare yourself to pre-pregnancy! 💜
