Kids in nursery

Hi for the parents who don’t have the 9-5 and their shifts change up each week, how does nursery work? Do you just pay what days you take your child in? Can you pick and choose when to take child and different hours? Thank you

Some nurseries you can pay to be flexible which allows you to plan out with the nursery what days they are needed 😊

I don't have a 9-5, but I just agreed with my manager which days I would work. Most nurseries will require you to select set days so that they can ensure they stick to staffing ratios. Must say I've never come across one that allows you to pick your day's week on week. Personally, I'd speak to your manager at work and try and come up with something that works for all parties.

As above, I think you will struggle to find a nursery that is flexible like that. At most you would have to give 4 weeks notice of any changes, for the sake of staffing levels and for invoicing you.

I give 4 weeks notice and do a flexi contract where I have to pick 2 days each week, they can be any days. Your contract can be more than 2 days though

Hi! I’m a nurse and so up until now my shifts have been different every week. I booked my daughter into nursery on sets days and submitted a flexible working form asking for reduced hours and one set day a week, which was approved. Perhaps you could try that?

I work in a nursery and my shifts change every week. My little girl is coming to the same nursery as me and my boss agreed for 2 set days that my little girl attends that we’re both in 9-4 and the 2 days that she’s with grandma my shifts will vary. However, she needed me to pick 2 days that I want as she can’t change them every week x

Hello I had a childminder they often are much more flexible back then I had a schedule that changed every week I could start as early as 7 AM I would text my childminder every beginning of the month what my LO hours would be and she was fine with it

Can you speak to work and ask to do specific days unless advanced notice is given? I work a '9-5' (😂 I wish, more like 7.30-5/6) but mon-fri and will return to that after mat leave. My partner's shifts were always changing, but he agreed with his employer to do set days (not working Tuesday because its my staff meeting day so I can't leave slightly earlier to pick her up from nursery + weekends so we can do things as a family) and they check in if they need him to do a different day. So next week he's working Tue instead of Wed because we'd not got plans. I think our nursery is quite flexible though too - when looking around they mentioned someone had an extra day that week as mum had to work etc.

My work is varied and we just pay for the same three days at nursery. I try to request to work those days but it doesn't always work out. I still send him to nursery even if I am off work, it's been paid for and I can get chores etc done in peace

I work on a 15 week rotation with lots of weekends and lates my son goes Monday-Friday if I’m off I can get some chores done I know it’s an expensive option but I work for a bank and he can’t be in the room when I’m working(husband doesn’t work weekends so he sorts him out then)
